Tanev has played an amazing 2 games for us. He is most likely an over pay to get him

Why EDM didn’t trade Lucic for picks instead of Neal ?
If you can answer this question, you’ll probably be able to answer yours about Hornqvist

the penguins couldn't get that for Horny.
You over value what his worth was. No one wanted to take on that contract. He was slowed. Injuries age whatever you want to call it. He wasn't a top 6 player anymore. Their only choice was to swap contracts other people really didn't want, and watch the news media try to act like it was something for one of the teams when in reality neither team really got anything here.

I think that's an underpay for Virtanen. He's 24 and a guy you think would have cracked 20 goals last year.
I don't think a 4th liner, a decent but not great prospect and a low round pick gets you a pretty solid 3rd liner. Who brings not only production but a lot of intangibles.

As for the signings. I don't think anyone has anything to really say there.
I don't know. Maybe it was a situational issue here.
Maybe Haula looked at it like, I don't want to compete with Jankowski for ice time, stepped back and said not a fit. Too much competition for ice.
That's the best I can come up with there because I too would have tried to sign him. But maybe in the end it wasn't about the offer but the team and opportunity.

VAN decline. They would much rather keep Virtanen.
