Andersen imo is gone regardless. If he's bad, then he won't be back. If he's good, he may price himself out.

Hyman won't be claimed over dermott because Seattle has no control and he can walk

Why would you get hate for that? Andersen leaving has been anticipated for a while now for the exact reasons you mentioned.

Also, if Seattle wanted to claim Hyman they're allowed to work out a deal with him beforehand. Obviously he's not obligated to negotiate with them, but just because he's a UFA doesn't mean there's no chance of losing him to Seattle.

Seattle can pre negotiate a contract and then choose somebody else to select and still sign him afterwards he’ll they can work our contracts with Freddy and Hyman and choose another player then sign them first day.

So basically, Im saying that Hyman won't be, because Seattle may want Dermott because he can't walk like hyman can, guaranteeing a player. And the hate is purely on Andersen because so many people still think he's gonna be back and so many thing Raanta is "just a backup" which is far from the truth.

Wouldn't Hyman be protected anyway?

I know it's only three games, but Holl is the big surprise for me this year. 22 min, second most used D, and a CF% of... 62.7! And Seattle may prefer a younger pick. If he has a strong year, and if Brodie pans out (like he played in the third game of the season, not like in the second one!), then the Leafs could have finally solved their top 4.

Also, what's the price for Tuuka Rask? Having him back would be the final step in repairing past mistakes.

I know what you're trying to say, but you're overlooking important information. Prior to the expansion draft there is a period where Seattle is allowed to negotiate with teams pending UFA's if they are interested in that player being their selection. If they are able to work out a contract, that player would become their chosen player from that team.

Rask won't leave boston. And i see the leafs going 4-4-1 because of their top 6. So the big 4 and then the top 4. So hyman is exposed

Yeah, but I just din't see hyman going for that. He loves toronto apparently and would take a cut, so i doubt he goes along with the Seattle idea if Toronto already sets something up

Why do you think raanta is a starter. He is 31 and has never been a starter in his career. He has decent numbers but plays for a defensive Arizona team as a backup. I don’t mind signing him as a stop gap but no more than like 3 mil in my opinion.

I agree. I think most people's predictions are Hyman will stay, Andersen will leave, and Dermott will be claimed by Seattle.

Pending FA's are not eligible, but Seattle can negotiate a contract prior to free agency, they are the only team that can do so.

It's the other way around. Pending UFA's are not included in the expansion draft which takes place before the draft, but they are the only team that gets to talk to UFA's prior to July 1. No other team can do so. So it is entirely possible that teams can have a handshake agreement and sign guys right after the draft and before FA.

You said there is still a chance Hyman can be lost to Seattle and that isn't entirely true, he can be lost in FA and technically to Seattle but that is not the expansion draft. RFA's are different however.

Could've sworn I'd seen something that said Seattle is allowed to negotiate with a pending UFA prior to the expansion draft. Might be mistaken though as I can't seem to find it...

Edit: Yeah, so I can't find any specific reference to this in regarding the Seattle expansion draft, but everything I've seen says the rules are the same as they were for Vegas, and as per those rules:

"When all 30 NHL teams release their expansion draft-protected lists on June 18 at 10 a.m. ET, the Vegas Golden Knights will have an exclusive and unprecedented 72-hour window to meet and negotiate with impending free agents (unrestricted and restricted) who are still technically under contract until June 30 with their existing employers.... If a free agent does sign with the Golden Knights between June 18 and 20, he will count as McPhee’s one selection from that player’s team."

Hyman is a UFA.. wont need to be protected unless signs an extension before the draft.

Expansion draft is July 21st and free agency begins July 28th... there would normally be that 1 week window where teams can talk with but not negotiate contracts before free agency... so whatever it is you think you saw is not correct

Are the rules for Seattle's expansion the same as those for Vegas? As far as everything I've seen, the answer to that is yes. And it was specifically stated at the time of Vegas's draft that they would be allowed to negotiate with pending UFA's who were left unprotected after protection lists were released, but before the expansion draft. If the rules for Seattle are the same, I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed that same opportunity.
