Description
I said a few weeks back that I figured the best players on this team would never allow us to finish bottom of the league or even BOTTOM 3 in the league. I was so wrong! I can’t figure out if it’s more on colliton’s ****ty coaching or the fact our prospects aren’t nearly as good as advertised though. I’d have to assume the former considering three games isn’t a good sample size for the youth, but seriously, where the hell has kurashev in these last two games? Mitchell has been okay, but obviously he doesn’t solve anything on defense. Lastly, forget zadorov.

Power, Hughes, or Edvinsson, here we come.

I'm with you man. Its a combo of coaching and prospects not being as good as advertised. I'm livid at the playing time to kubalik, strome, boqvist, and kurashev regardless. Our prospects haven't looked good, but colliton also doesn't allow them to play their game. It's gonna be a long season. We're gonna find out who the real hawks fans are

Don’t be so hard on everybody. Your two best centres are injured long term, your management sold off all your wingers that were worth anything and not kane and kubalik and you’ve got two AHL goaltenders.

Hawks r in a good place, if ure not good enough to compete for the cup or have a deep prospect pool the best place to be is bottom of the league..... so many teams r stuck in the awkward middle

IMO this is probably the best season this could have happened to you guys. You say it will be a long season but it's also only 56 games. It will go by faster than you think. Also in hard times its always nice to have a 2nd favorite team to cheer for wink

Thing is Strome and Kubalik have the potential to either be part of the rebuild or sold off for futures. Playing them 3rd line minutes is gonna put them into a position like Roslovic where they want out and you have to move them for pennies on the dollar. Regardless of what their record is, they still have to give their best players a fighting chance to be the best players.

The thing is Kurashev has looked good when hes been on the ice, but Colliton hasnt let him and Kubalik play for more than 10 minutes a game. This is either an obvious tank job or just blatantly incompetent coaching, both of which should be fireable offenses

Our prospects are definitely as good as advertised, it’s all on Collitons systems and the ice time he gives certain players, if you watch the games or look at the advanced stats behind Kurashev, Mitchell, and Suter, they’re among the best on the team, it’s not their fault that Colliton won’t put them on special teams over other players or that he won’t even give them the ice time they deserve. The only reason you’re not noticing Kurashev is cause he got 5.5 min of ice time in the first two periods tonight. The only prospect you could be mad at is Boqvist but I’d say him and Zadorov as a pair aren’t a good fit and he shouldn’t be thrusted into the PP1 qb spot.

The blames all on Colliton, and Stan to a somehow lesser degree as the young guys have all been good, it’s the vets and collitons favorite 4th line that aren’t good. As well as him making the entire D look like **** cause of the awful system he’s running, which leaves two untested goalies on their own.

tl;dr: don’t you dare disparage my baby boys

Take it from an Oilers fan don’t fire your coach unless he’s Dallas Eakins or your team should actually be winning. There aren’t that many coaches out there and consistency if nothing else is key for development and culture.

Suter, Kurashev and especially Mitchell have all looked solid along with Highmore picking up where he left off, not sure why anyone with deep knowledge of the game would suggest otherwise. Boqvist continues to have problems, it's easy to see why Zadarov got press box time in Colorado, we have AHL goalies and this strict man D zone game is not working.

Not a doubt. For sure I really feel for the players who can’t play to their strengths under Colliton. Boqvist is taking such a step backwards cuz he can’t play offensively enough. As for the playing time, that part is just unacceptable, especially with kuba.

I don’t disagree, but the problem is that our coach is blatantly setting team up to fail. He can’t play them to their strengths and he sits plays who should see the heaviest time. Not to mention man on man defense never works with the lack of talent we have.

I agree with you there. At least it is only 56 games. As for second teams, believe me, I love Vegas. I got myself a Mark stone jersey for Christmas. Everything about them is what I desire in a team, from playing style to team spirit.

1000% AGREE!!!! And that’s the worst part, when you can’t tell if it’s a blatant tanking or just incompetence. I want the youth to grow even when we’re losing, but be honest, has boqvist actually been growing the past 18 months?

🤣 love the baby boys line. 👍

That’s the side I land on, it’s on Colliton. So the question then becomes, does Colliton’s involvement become a detriment to the youth? Between the lack of ice time and poor progress (boqvist for sure), I keep fearing how this impacts them long term.

I think he has been. The thing for me is I want him to be confident at this stage in his development. I get hes been making mistakes, but those mistakes are gonna be part of his growth. The bad thing is when he looks timid and unconfident. He has looked confident in parts of the games so far, which unfortunately have led to turnovers, but the confidence is going to be key. I do think he needs to take some time and go back to the AHL for a couple months, but I think he has shown growth.

I honestly couldn’t tell you if replacing him would work out better, someone I wanted this past offseason either as an assistant or head coach was Jim Montgomery (who we’d now need to pry from St. Louis or wait two years (which lines up with Collitons contract) to sign him — however at the start of his last season with Dallas he wasn’t very good at managing ice time or zone usage. Another guy we could pluck from an assistant job in the NHL is Marco Sturm who’s been great in LA and helped get the German national team to silver in the 2018 olympics.
Otherwise outside of the organization and even the NHL there’s a lot of really good coaches who actually know what they’re doing including Rikard Grönborg, Roger Rönnberg, Jukka Jalonen — the only thing is for some reason NHL teams don’t hire European coaches very often but Bowman took a risk with Colliton with him being young so why not take one with any of those above who’ve all proven to be great in every position they’ve been put in. (Though since Colliton spent time coaching overseas the hawks might be hesitant to hire someone from the same coaching background even if they’ve done significantly better)
I can’t see Bowman replacing Colliton this year and maybe not even next year but at some point he’ll likely have to or they both will be by Rocky or Danny Wirtz.

Oh and also Gallant still doesn’t have a job

I'm seeing a lot of the same things already mentioned. Young rookies make mistakes. I am indeed quite worried about Boqvists confidence. He has not looked good. I dont even know his role on the PP. Is his only job to dump back to Kane??? Anyone can do that. I could do that. Guys like Mitchell Kurashev Suter etc... really. They need all season and they need significant ice time. The situation stuff will work itself out.

BUT Suter being our #1C (like he was today) with 3 games played isn't how the organization planned it.

Oh and are we 3 for 3 in OWN goals per game??? That certainly doesn't help when you have an already injured and already sub par team.

worst part is colliton acts like he doesn't know why it's happening. He said something along the lines of thinking the stat sheet was really wierd when he saw it because he thought the ice time didn't reflect what he saw on the ice. He's said something like this when asked about ice time in all three games so far.

If they don’t end up with a top 5 pick, i think the hawks should take wallstedt this year to solidify their goaltending prospects. Not sure what Commesso is going to end up like but wallstedt is in the same tier as askarov and knight, maybe not as much potential as them two but certainly more than Commesso.

Wallstedt this year and hopefully a top 3 pick next year to land Wright, Lambert, or Savoie.

Top 5 this year i would not be opposed to them taking Hughes, Power or edvinsson to give them a top pairing left hand D to go with either Boqvist or Mitchell
