depends how team looks (fgor both teams) over the next 15-20 games. Philly might see their window as now

He’s not a 1D but the trade is fine if ghost bounces back

I certainly don’t think he’s a top pair d or anything close, but that balances out nicely with ghost being a negative value contract. I think this is kinda fair.

Edit: nevermind, just looked up the prospects. Those guys are nothing. Something of value needs to be added in my opinion.
I view the trade as a 2nd to take ghost, and then those two junky prospects for savard. They’ll need more.

It really comes down to how YOU or another evaluator views Ghost. If you see Ghost as having a "lost game", making 4.5mil for 3 more years, then he has absolutely negative value. I happen to think Ghost can still be a capable number 3 and anchor a PP whose been squeezed out by Provorov and Sanheim at LD and had injury after injury. Theres more to it on both opinions, but in the next 10-15 games we'll see Ghost play (hes on COVID list right now), and see if he truly is a liability or is he the guy who scored 40+ pts his first 4 years.

The late (?) 2nd should result in a nice mid level prospect, Millman is a nice mid level LD prospect and Strome is a big kid who like Pat Maroon may develop into his body and find his NHL game or maybe not.

Well, let’s get one thing straight about Ghost. The seed of doubt is there now, and that will never go away. He can play well, and in terms of trade value, he’s still the guy that is capable of totally losing it at any moment. I don’t think there’s any word where he’s a three. I think there’s a small chance that he regains some form and turns into a third pair PP specialist. At 3x4.5 that is a huge gamble, and without question is negative value. Best case scenario if he puts in a full season of solid hockey, i think he might be neutral value.

As for the prospects: these guys are nothing when it comes to trade value. They might wind up being good some day, but they have little to no value. Strome is in the ECHL man. Doesn’t get much worse than that. I think combined value of those prospects may be somewhere around a 5th or 6th. That doesn’t get savard. Millman might turn into something, but he’s a very long shot. NHL teams would rather just draft a player their amateur staff like.

CBJ is struggling out of the gate. If they get a good offer for PLD and are falling out of contention, I could see them moving Savard as a rental, and Philly would figure to be one of the teams at the top of that list. The Dubois domino would have to fall first, though.

What's the lowdown on the two prospects included in the deal? I haven't read much about them. I know Ghost has struggled a bit lately but he could be a good fit for CBJ (especially if he's capable of playing on the right side since Gavrikov seems to be firmly entrenched as the #2 LHD)

Philly has too much depth and youth at some of these positions to even think about developing these guys, so in honest terms they never WILL develop in Philly's system.

Millman is a mid level prospect at LD (in Philly hes behind Provorov, Sanheim, Hagg, Ghost, Zamula, York, Hogberg), who has good size and wheels, just was signed, but it would be a stretch to say he would make the NHL as more than a 3rd pairing guy and even then odds are against him.

Strome is the youngest Strome, but hes HUGE and has good hands. Had great stats in OHL, but his wheels and skating has proven not good enough (although that can be addressed to a certain degree with development and coaching). In Philly, he is very reminiscent of Pat Maroon at same age. Strome could with development (PHI has big body forwards Allison and Ratcliffe in the AHL ahead of him on the development chart) become a nice Beagle, Maroon type but odds are against him.

Overall its probably not the best package, (although I cant see Philly moving tons when they have too many bodies at the moment and if it aint broke/why fix it) but looking at what PHI needs and how CBJ needs some change, I thought theyd make nice partners.
