This is an interesting thought experiment. I wonder what would be the actual ask for either side to do something along these lines. Given all of the other cap dumps and the reporting of Elliot Friedman that teams are leery of any kind of term of anyone not a core player I have my doubt the Wings would be willing to take on Neal, even for that return.

Detroit is wasting the value that cap space has and I don't think they're gonna move forward in the next 2 years. Getting Bouchard seems pretty free right now but your comment is valid for sure.

I agree with there is wasted cap space but Yzerman hasn't really taken on any cap dumps. Staal but when he traded for him it was before free agency and Detroit did need another veteran LD. With Hronek and Seider not sure Bouchard makes a bunch of sense. Even if Yzerman would take Neal the cap isn't going to rase more than $1M in an offseason until his contract is up.
