Description

As this is my first AGM of 2021, first, I'd like to say hi to you all in the CapFriendly community and I wish all of you to a healthy, safe and wonderful 2021!

Second, I'd like to preface this AGM on the assumption that Pierre-Luc Dubois is truly available. He may, he may not, but if he truly is, I think the Leafs have to at least try, right? In theory, the Blue Jackets and Leafs match up well, however the caveat is both the quarantining issue this season and the fact that the Leafs are super tight against the cap.

As a side note, I would consider Nick Robertson and Rasmus Sandin pretty untouchable as far as Leafs' prospects are concerned.

if you can't win with the centers you have PLD isn't going to make a difference.

If you want PLD, one of the big 4 is going. I would imagine CBJ would want a C coming back, which isn't going to happen.

Toronto and Columbus are not good trading partners for PLD.

Toronto should really only be offering to raise the price for divisional rivals.

PLD just makes the team top heavier and eats cash that could be distributed to other areas of the team. Centre isn't an area of concern.

I wonder how many teams are actually in on PLD, I am not saying he would but there is the possibility that he doesn't report to certain teams after saying he wants a big market and would love to play for Montreal. That really could be why Jarmo is not getting the offers he would like. I mean there is the risk that he walks in FA in 4 years, or like I said above not report if a team like Arizona traded for him.

Jackets would likely want Marner in a deal with them trying to offersheet him before. To which I think Leafs turn down in a heartbeat.

Dubois doesn't really fit in Toronto. He'd be a 3C as he's stated before he wants to remain at centre, and with his contract coming up soon he'd be too expensive for 3C. Columbus could look to get a younger, cheaper asset for him. I don't see the teams being good trade partners at all.

Dude you're not even close here on PLD, Where's the comparable Center that Jarmo will want in return for PLD? And he's going to be an extremely expensive #3C in Toronto.

If you're trading for PLD, Robertson and Sandin are not untouchables. Typical Leafs fans way overhyping these prospects.

As for whether he'll report to certain teams-I see no reason why not. I mean, I can't see teams like Florida, Arizona, etc (Super small market teams) being in on him in the first place. At the end of the day, he'll be traded to wherever the Blue Jackets/Jarmo get the best offer from.

I wasn't saying he wouldn't report, I was asking if that fear of him not reporting would take some teams out of the running or perhaps simply he reports and only signs for 2 more years after his current contract so that he can just walk in FA. You would have to think teams are already considering both scenario's.

Thanks for the good wishes MG. It's unlike any New Year, I have ever seen. Looking forward to Sunday, two NFL games (including my Bills) and the Leafs.

Thank you @palhal, could be with the new divisional structure and playoff format, but I think some major changes are on the for the horizon for this team as I am not even completely sure this team, in it's current form, gets into the top-4 in the North Division with how inconsistent their team defense has been so far (through only 4 games, mind you).
