Trust me I know. He’s not even worth 9M IMO. Guy is made of glass and way too streaky. No consistency what so ever and his Defense 90% of games is absolutely pitiful to watch.

I know this will sound a bit harsh, but SJS needs to do an apocalyptic teardown. They're a bad team with a very bad prospect pool. Ironically, Merkely is supposed to be just like EK. So...my solution... trade EK with 50% retention. Get whatever you can and just continue to trade for futures. The Sharks are stuck in purgatory and the length of these deals are insane.

It's so sad because you can tell his edges and footspeed are severely compromised. Those attributes are literally the things that make him so special.

It's not just that though. He's been making awful passes in the neutral zone for awhile now and he's been absolutely atrocious breaking out of our own zone. I seriously wish that was a hyperbole but it's an understatement if anything.

And somehow he's been even WORSE at defending. Like look I get it, offense is his thing and I can't blame him for prioritizing that side of the game, but he's been so bad at defending lately I seriously wonder if he's like betting on these games and tanking on purpose. Maybe he's on other teams' payroll idk.

I seriously hope he turns it around cause I LOVE the man. I really do. But I'm just so heated right now after this game. This would be like a 4-2 Sharks lead if he was not a MASSIVE liability.

Ok rant over sorry.

Edit: Blues just scored again AHHHHHHHHHHHHH IM LOSING MY MINDDDDDDDD

Karlsson was declining probably due to injuries late in Ottawa tenure. Sharks made a mistake, giving up so much in a trade for one year rental. But then they compounded the problem (as GMs tend to do) is they felt it necessary to resign Karlsson so they could justify the trade. And even worse they added picks to the trade with the resigning.
Gee, 11.5m sure could've got you quality UFAs and kept the assets you traded to Ottawa. Admitting the Sharks went to the Cup final with EK, but it looks all downhill from now. Plus the Sharks have those horrid long term expensive contracts on declining players.....Couture, Vlasic, Burns and Karlsson and you might add Jones too.

You think? Plattner (the owner) has been really lenient with Wilson over the years. If there's a mutual agreement to tank, I'd think he probably stays around given that last draft was solid.

Agree 100%, but it’s hard to do with all their bad contracts. They’re so screwed man

if they tank, what are u doing with the longterm contracts of Couture, Vlasic, Burns, Kane (maybe they get out of that), Karlsson and Jones

You have to eat them right? At least most of them. If the point of a rebuild is to acquire assets like picks and prospects, trying to ship out bad contracts with picks and prospects seems super counterintuitive. That's what makes it so hard for SJ. They would be fine if the term on the bad contracts were 1-3 years, but sadly most of our contracts that are like 4-7 years.

I think Kane is 100% moveable (personality aside) and so is Couture to a lesser extent. But the others are just anchors. Wilson is an absolute fool for getting us into this mess.

Sharks just need to restart regardless. Keep Couture, Burns, Hertl, Meier. Trade- Karlsson, Vlasic, Kane, Labanc and Jones or buy him out. Start over completely. The Karlsson trade was pitiful because we bought him as a rental for WAY too much assets and that 1st rounder turned into a top 3 pick in Stutzle. Sharks could have been patient and just signed Karlsson the following season as a UFA if they felt the could’ve gotten him. Regardless I wouldn't have. You don’t need two Offensive D man- Burnzie is enough on the back end. I just wish Tavares would’ve chosen SJ over Toronto 2 years ago during free agency because I feel like Sharks would have a completely different team and much better all around.

Kings were able to tank with the contract of Kopitar (10M) and Doughty (11M) so it's still not impossible...

Hindsight, no one expected Sharks to give up a lottery pick in Tim Stutzle especially after their trip of the WCF. Neither parties involved in the trade predicted the amazing growth of Josh Norris(Trent Mann, the chief amateur scout of the Sens, initially saw Josh Norris as a 3C).

Literally the same outcome as the Sens when they unexpectedly parted way with what would become Sam Girard and Bowen Byram for a 1.5 years of Duchene.

At least the Sens recognized their mistake and traded Duchene in his UFA season. . Got a 19th pick( Lassi Thomson) from Columbus as well as Abramov and Davidsson, both prospects.
It was Nashville who made the big mistake signing the 29 years old Duchene to a 8m X 7 UFA deal.
