Honestly not a bad offer. I appreciate actually giving something of value

Right, it’s a real good offer for the sharks, bad for the avs. I understand they get a pretty good center in Hertl and some other pieces, but is it just me or does that seem like a steep return?

To me, Byram is the main feature, as a blue-chip prospect with #1 D-man potential (not quite at Makar's level, but still great). Kaut is a decent piece but not that much more valuable than Gambrell. Compher is someone who would have been more valuable pre-pandemic; given the flat cap and the length of his contract, I'm not sure what his value is. Honestly, if this trade weren't made he probably gets replaced by Newhook next season. Trading him helps fit Hertl into the cap this year and others in future years.

someone made a trade about Barkov, who is better than Hertl, for Newhook and Byram and Avs fans didn't like it.

Any Avs fan objecting to parting ways with Byram, Newhook or any of their prospects for Barkov is out of their mind.

That's the vast majority of the Avs fanbase then. We'll be nuts and keep our prospects thanks.

While I think two great prospects is a bit much, you have to expect you're going to lose one.

To me, prospects vs. Hertl/Barkov provides insight into philosophy on team-building. You either roll the dice on your prospects making it while the team's window is still open, or you roll the dice on going all-in for two years.

Well we've seen the Avs philosophy over the last couple of years, build from within and make a splash when possible (and Joe does that well) but I don't see this is as remotely likely. You can pretty much discount Byram & Newhook from any trade discussions unless it's a serious doozy, and bear in mind that with top guys come cap issues. The Avs have plenty of their own to sign so their own young studs will be in high demand.

tbh, Byram + Newhook is pretty much the price to pay to get Barkov. If they think that's bad trade, Byram for Hertl would be worse in their eyes.

I agree its kinda ridiculous to be unwilling to part way with a piackage including Byram and Newhook for Aleksander Barkov. Their D-core is pretty nasty even without Byram and Barkov is a huge upgrade from Newhook and Kadri. Having MacKinnon-Barkov as their 1C/2C is similar to Crosby-Malkin, McDavid-Draisaitl or Matthews-Tavares.

But from the long-term perspective, this trade will put the Avs in the cap hell situation. (Resign Makar, Landeskog and MacKinnon/Byram later on) I think it's just their organization isn't willing to go all-in by signing (super)star who are free agent or make blockbuster trades. (even if they'll be able to win a 1-2 Cup right now)
