Explaining Roslovic

Description
I would love to acquire him, but I do not think it is a good time to do so.
First off, the player would want top 6 minutes and that is not something the Pens could absolutely guarantee.
Also, I know the offense has struggled, but adding Kapanen will be huge and we have yet to see what he can do. I think we give him a few games in the top 6 before striking a deal.
I think our third line has been our best line, and although having Roslovic there would be sick, I dont wanna break that chemistry.
Finally, I think acquiring Roslovic would be a bad move in regards to the expansion draft. I think that, if we were to acquire him, it would either be Pettersson or someone like McCann/Tanev going back as the main piece, unless the Jets want a high pick + depth player (2nd + Riikola/ZAR).
For the expansion draft, I think we protect our top 6, and we already will have an issue choosing between McCann and Jankowski if both keep playing how they are, so adding Roslovic adds more confusion and we would have to send Seattle picks/prospects/extra players in order for them to not take those players.
I dont think right now is the best time to make this deal, but IF the Pens were to strike a deal, I think it would look something like this.

I think Pettersson could be way more impactful than Roslovic. At least that's from a Caps fan perspective.

100%. I’m not trading MP for Roslavic. We’d essentially only have 3 Top 4Ds without him.

I think that this is what Winnipeg would want in a Roslovic trade but you're explanation on why the Penguins shouldn't trade for him makes sense to me. It would probably only work if Pittsburgh made another big trade that opened up a spot in the top 6 and a way to protect him for the expansion draft.

I think the Jets are in the same spot as the Pens when it comes to the expansion draft. We already have 3 D that need protection in JMo, DeMelo and Pionk. Any D that we acquire that isn't expansion draft exempt is essentially a rental so I assume we'd be targeting futures (PO Joseph/Poulin) instead of a Roster D or we hold Roslovic until the deadline and use him to acquire a true rental instead of giving up picks to do it.

I'm just not sure I see a fit here and given it was really just Elliot Friedman making stuff up and "wondering if they'd be interested" that people take the rumour and run with it as fact. It's what I hate about him and his 31 thoughts column. It's literally just what he thinks but people think it's the absolute truth when in most cases it's just "I think..."

Does Roslovic look good there? Yes. Is that the exact same spot he had and would have on the Jets? Yes. Will he be happy there? no. Probably not worth it for either team. Jets aren't giving up a pick with him for a player that will just be taken by Seattle a few months later. Adding him opens up a D protection slot for the Pens but causes one of McCann/Jankowski to be exposed, or perhaps even Roslovic himself, so he'd end up just as a rental for the Pens too.

wait. Jankowski was already give UFA status. I'm not sure you can just "take that back".
I'm not sure capfriendly is right on that. They lost his RFA control when the was tendered. I'm not sure another team just picks it back up since they signed him to a 1 year deal.
That doesn't sound right to me.
But even so it's not really a question, they protect McCann.
I don't think they are worried about the expansion draft anyway. The correct move is to get rid of Matheson there. It may cost....but that's ok, I'm good with that. Just as long as JR doesn't keep doing the FA pickings.

I dont know if the jets have any interest in MP anyways. I know they are thin on D, but they have young guys (Heinola, Samberg, Niku, Stanely) pushing for spots in the lineup. Trading Roslovic for MP just clogs it up and takes a spot away from these young guys.
