I think the Wild pass on both. The Dvorak for Dumba move is enticing but more quality needs to come back fro ARI to move the needle. And the way Greener is playing now means top 6 needs to come back for him.

I just don’t think these moves make the Wild objectively better.

Imo Dvorak has slightly more value than Dumba, just like Johansson has slightly more value than Demers. The Greenway trade is just a ball in the park. I think White would slot well in Minny & is right-handed, that could be acquired in another way.

I don’t hate the trades by any means. I think the value is close for the Dumba/Dvorak but I think the Wild feel they need a bit more out of it for posterity. The signing of Foligno really makes it look like Zuccarello is gonna waive and we are gonna hold onto Dumba for the time being, especially since it looks like he’s playing the right way again.

As for White, I think he’s still basking in the glow of playing with Stone for a year. I really think that was not a great contract on OTT part.

I've been toying with a way to get White without Ek or Greenway. I think he'd be a decent fit here. Problem I keep coming to is that I'm not sure he's a center and if we want to finally fix our 1C problem and make a legitimate offer for PLD, Barkov or even Eichel if things go sour in Buffalo then we can't afford another $4-5M player.

The 1C, imo, will be fixed soon enough with Marco Rossi & I wouldn't give up assets for one until we see what Rossi can do. White can be a right-handed center and a right wing, which is something the Wild should look at. I don't know how Ottawa values White as a draft pick either.

I think your point on seeing what Rossi is is precisely what needs to happen. Any moves this year should be made with 2-3 years in the future in mind. If they make a move for a center it should be for a young guy like Frost/Glass/Dellandrea, i.e. somebody with top 6 potential, doesn’t lock in an immediate cap cost, and doesn’t have any ED implications.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Barkov/Eichel/PLD put us into a bigger bind cap wise in less than a couple years. That’s not the place we need to be. Trust the process even if it means having some iffy years.

Ottawa once adored White and regarded him highly. Not so sure nowadays. Fans definitely have flipped, but that's because they have short memories and are like yappy dogs that get distracted by shiny new things. His year last year can be broken into two stages; playing through injury in 2019 with 10 in 33, and then playing while healthy in 2020 where he put up 13 in 28. He saw zero consistency with his linemates, and was continuously moved around the lineup since he's versatile positionally. He's good defensively so he can play shutdown bottom 6 minutes as well as being gifted offensively and capable of suiting up in the top 6. He finished the season strong (he was PPG over the last several games), and started camp this season strong but somehow it went from "Colin White is the best player at camp" to him being a scratch overnight. Some speculate he's nursing an injury, others speculate that the coach is just not a fan of him. He played in one game and had no confidence whatsoever but still put up a point by keeping the play in the zone on Stützle's goal. DJ Smith is very inconsistent with his mantra of "earn your minutes" so it's entirely possible he's just not a fan of White's game, but it has definitely decimated whatever confidence he had going into this season.

I've watched all of his games since Boston College, and even watched USNTDP games from back in the day. White should be a center, and would make for a great two-way middle 6 C in the NHL. I think he'd be a great fit for the Wild with the defensive style they roll with. I do think Dorion sees a lot in White though so I imagine the ask would be Greenway or Ek, or would have been Kunin before he was traded away. A center core involving Rossi (presuming he turns out and actually becomes a 1C), White, and Ek could be one of the best shutdown trios in the league.

I don't like the "what if" game. PLD, Barkov, Eichel would all be great to have, but I don't see MN having a shot at any of them if they did become available without gutting the team.

Betting the future on Rossi and having nothing else as a backup plan just seems like an awful idea to me.
