Description
so It looks like the only change for thursday against NJ is Dal Colle in for Johnston, which is actually a huge upgrade lol. MDC is nothing special (although I do think he can become a very good 3rd liner with JGP as his C) , but he at least has good hockey IQ, unlike Johnston.

In staples Q&A, he made it sound like wahlstrom or bellows won't get a shot on the powerplay anytime soon. They'll get 7-8 min a game and that's it. It really doesn't make sense that two players with elite shots can't get an opportunity on the PP. It's such an easy fix. The main reason the isles PP sucks is because of the lack of shooting talent. Bellows + wahlstrom both have quick releases , I don't understand why Trotz refuses to improve the PP with better internal options.

Islanders need a lot more help on the PP then just Wahlstrom or Bellows.
If they lose the zone, they struggle to get it out of their own zone and break back into the offensive zone.

the main issue on the powerplay is that they play keep away with the puck because no one has the shooting talent to cleanly beat the goalie. At the very least, wahlstrom and bellows can be PP specialists. What exactly do you think Mike Hoffman does on the PP? He stays in the same spot and waits for someone to set him up. The puck is off his stick immediately - bellows and wahlstrom have that same skillset. Beau and Nelson have good shots, but they need time to get it off. When they are the only shooting threats on the PP, its a problem.

Two thoughts.
From watching the Powerplay I see an issue with the Isles having trouble keeping the line when the puck is thrown back from the center, it seems Dobson and Leddy have trouble with that aspect.
Arthur thought that Wahlstrom will get an opportunity soon per say limited minutes, but Trotz is still rotating players in and out on that third line.

Dobson had a few nice keep ins - this is still pretty new to him so I’m assuming he’ll get better with more reps. Leddy just sucks and shouldn’t be on the PP. His decision making is too slow.

Staple noted that bellows/wahlstrom won’t be on the PP for a while. Seems like trotz is going to allow the current personnel to work things out, which doesn’t make sense because it clearly doesn’t work.
