Damn Canadian hockey media. Tampa has no need, long-term cap space, or assets to acquire PLD.

Why? flip him and Mac to Seattle for a couple picks from Seattle opens 11 mil in cap space.

Here we go again it’s not that big of a deal it’s really not that bad. Stop with the Lightning are going to have to give away everything including the kitchen sink.

All I meant by that was acquiring Dubois makes no sense since Tampa has to clear almost 10 million in cap space next season. If they trade Tyler Johnson it should just be to clear cap without acquiring another contract that complicates things for next year.

Not really package PLD and McDonagh and get picks back from Seattle. Salary cap is open

I suppose that might work although I think McDonagh has a NTC (I guess they could arrange it so Tampa leaves McDonagh unprotected and Seattle takes him). I still don’t think it would make sense for them as they’d probably have to give a lot more for Dubois than Seattle would give them back since Tampa would lose leverage since they’d have to make that move to get under the cap. If I were Tampa and looking to move Johnson this year I think I’d just do it for a rental.

Personally they should do nothing but stick with what they have get the B2B and deal with next year in the off season

Johnson also has 8 years on PLD and including a defenseman this trade is like taking sand to the beach.

Going back to the flip no one else would be able to offer a 22yo 1c with 3years club control and a guy who was the captain of a team of a Stanley Cup berth and a conference finals appearance and an A for a cup win and 3 other conference finals that’s worth a 2 & 3 so Foote and 2 1s to dump 11 mil in cap space is pretty cheap 12 mil actually

McDonagh will be left unprotected IMO they never make this trade CBJ probably says no the lightning go 4-4 protect Stamkos, Point, Cirrelli, Kucherov
Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak, Foote,
Vasilevskiy
