We need to fix this

Created by: arafay
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The biggest problem is that Morrissey doesn’t have an adequate partner (preferably with size). They also have a disgruntled RFA who probably wants to play rather than hold out. Time to solve some problems. Honestly, even if risto is bad in his own end it’s fine, I think he could do well in the jets system. Anyways, we need a change rn. Even when poolman comes back, we will need an upgrade for the defence to be “playoff worthy”

gutsy. Risto is a 4 d-man, a very good 4, but I never saw him in the 2 hole. But not a bad trade, you've added size, leadership and a good guy in the dressing room.

what should have happened is Winnipeg should have made a deal for Toews when the isles were in cap trouble. A dcore of

Morrisey-Demelo
Toews-Pionk
Forbert-Niku/Poolman

would have been fine. Jets sure would have had to bury Perreault, but to get a top 4 dman is well worth it.

Jets need a player that can atleast fill in short term in top 6 also, demelo/poolman health should help the d hole

I mean both are healthy (poolman isn’t on the COVID list anymore) but they aren’t on the trip since they didn’t get on at the start. Look for both to likely be in the lineup when Ottawa comes to Winnipeg in a couple of games.

As for the top 6 issue, I think that’s something we can address at the tdl without too many problems tbh.

I disagree. I think ristolainen is a good number 3 with too 2 potential under the right system. The jets’ system favours bigger players such as him so I’m hoping he will be a fit.

the last defenseman the jets should want to acquire is Risto. He's a below replacement level D - all tools no toolbox player.

Anything new on roslovic? With laine day to day, probably would have been ideal for a roslovic window in the top 6, he needs some new management, zero advantage to missing time or losing a contract year

Risto has been their best dman. Sabres easily pass. Risto has been great under Krueger and fantastic with this decent roster

I disagree. See my above comments on how I think he would be better in the jets’ system

I mean, even if he were to be signed today, he would have to quarantine 14 days once he gets into Canada. Anyways, he would good to have back but I’d rather have a top 4 d

Not to be a jerk but when a d-man shoots right and plays right the rule of thumb is the even numbers. So 6,4,2. If he was a left shot that plays left, then 5,3,1. So when I said he is a 4 d-man and you countered you think he is a 3. Both play on the 2nd pairing, by identifying him as a 4, then the scout room and others in management knows he is a right hand shot. Hope this helps!

Honestly, I’m so confused what you just said. I’m talking about numbers in the depth chart. Such as Morrissey is a number 1 d. Pionk is a number 3. Idk his that tells anyone anything about handedness... I’ve been in scouting circles and no one talks like that btw. When they say number 3, they are a 3rd d-man on a good team. That’s what it means.

yes it is true, if you say he is a 3, then you regard that player as your 3rd best d-man. I concur with you on that. My strength in turning teams around, was finding good partners so I went with pairings and who he will play with. Tom Renney and Roger Neilson did the same thing. No big deal and you are correct, I was simply thinking more in terms of pairings, not numbers 1 through 7.

They were definitely better but they still need a big d to play with JoMo imo.
Right now they look like (assuming demelo and poolman come back):
JoMo-poolman
Forbort-pionk
Heinola-demelo
beaulieu (Stanley sent down for now)

I would love for the jets to get an upgrade on poolman. That’s all. Any upgrade will do tbh, just someone who’s physical and good in his own end. Could range anywhere from a connor Murphy to a rasmus ristolainen to a Damian severson or Ryan Pulock. Just need an upgrade for this d-core to actually be considered good imo. Also, that move makes this team an instant contender imo

Yea, I was being tongue in cheek a bit, I agree another RHD is needed. For now, I would like to see Demelo play with JoMo. I'm thinking he was on the 3rd pair in camp because they knew he was going to miss the first few games due to having a baby, so they wanted to give Poolman as much time as possible to get comfortable with Morrissey.

I disagree. I think the jets are trying to add some size to every pairing. Hence poolman paired with JoMo. Beaulieu with demelo. And forbort with pionk
