Feels like something is going to happen

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2021
Published: Jan. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yet another PLD trade, but if not him then I imagine a similar package going to Florida for Barkov. I'm sure Barkov won't be on the market just yet.

I think Wild would still be willing sellers at the deadline on some of the guys like. Bonino, Gostisbehere, Zuccarello, Parise, Rask, and Bjugstad, not saying they all go but if a team called I'm sure Billy sells to make room for Rossi and Boldy.

I feel like Dumba is a good fit on the top pair in Philadelphia, not sure Flyers fans still feel that way but this use to be the general agreed upon deal.

All right CapFriendly do what you do and tear it apart.
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Frost, Morgan
  2. Gostisbehere, Shayne
  3. 2021 1st round pick (PHI)
2.
CBJ
  1. Eriksson Ek, Joel
  2. Johansson, Marcus ($493,750 retained)
  3. Khovanov, Alexander
  4. 2021 1st round pick (MIN)
  5. 2021 1st round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
The Wild 1st is lottery protected.

This trade only takes place after Bill Guerin is assured that PLD would be willing to play in Minnesota. ( I have concerns that he really wants Toronto, Montreal, or NY, so we will see.)

You have wildly overpaid for PLD. Keep EE and those two first rounders

I would love to, but I really don't see Khovanov and MoJo getting the deal done.

I get the same sense, feels like something is brewing. After acquiring Cole this blue line is really good even without Dumba. Friedman said (paraphrasing) in his 31 thoughts podcast that Jarmo was given some serious offers. Sounded like he's sitting in a few of them, I wouldn't be surprised if PLD is moved in a week or two. Friedman also said (again, paraphrasing) that there may be some teams we haven't heard about that are in the weeds waiting. Guerin seems to play his cards close to his vest and given our very obvious need for a center I'd imagine we could be one of those teams.

Not sure we could get quite that package for Dumba, at least not yet. If he plays 5-10 more games at the level he has then that could absolutely change.

That's a decent package for PLD. Still think they'd ask for Boldy or Rossi but if they're fine with that then I'm in.

Edit: forgot to mention, Guerin said in Russo's podcast (again, paraphrasing) that if they have to change plans to fit a young talented player (ie Dubois or Barkov), then he would figure out a way to work. Russo sort of had to prod this answer out of him from what I remember but I was cooking while I listened and may not have caught all the details.

IF the Wild acquire PLD, I hope they can figure out how to do it without the inclusion of JEE...just in case Rossi can’t cut it at center in the NHL. Plus, a long-term center group of PLD/Rossi/JEE would definitely (again, IF Rossi pans out) make the Wild a consistent Cup contender for a long time...

Just listening to "Straight from the Source" it felt like Russo was kinda I know something you don't know. Something is up.

I figure the beginning of February will be when significant trades start. By then GMs will have a good sample size to go off of and because of quarantine trades will happen early this year especially if it's a Canadian team wanting a player out of the USA.

Russo is always like that and more often than not nothing happens. It was the same way with Dumba for the last 6 months of 2020.

You're right about that, but I want to believe.

@MNBassman, @TanSor I figured I should add you guys to this discussion. Has anyone else heard that they have Boldy playing center again at BC and this time it's going well?

Well to be fair he looked good playing center last year too, he was just playing with wingers that couldn't score. Now he's only playing center because Newhook is out. Once Newhook is back he'll be back on the wing. I wouldn't read too much into it.

@OutCold13 haven't heard that but I haven't been paying any attention to NCAA hockey this year. If that's true then that's great news!

I saw that somewhere too. I wonder if BG didn’t “suggest” he plays C for evaluation purposes...

It would take a massive set of balls for Guerin to go up to Jerry York and make suggestions about what York should do with his team.

Depending on how the season unfolds, I would seriously consider it. It's too early in this weird season to make a decision now. But Gustavsson is a disaster signing, so who knows.
