PLD Ceiling: 80 pts, 35G
KK ceiling : 70 pts, 30G
Caufield ceiling : 55 pts, 30G
1st pick: who knows??
So, why do you trade as much for PLD?
Why? Because of the floor, not the ceiling.
PLD floor: the great player he already is and prooved to be over more than 1 season. A strong 50pts center with a very good 2way game.
KK: Its subjective but let's say he never really upgrade from right now, you have a 30-35 pts center who isn't a defensive liability but does not make an impact on this side of the puck either.
Caufield: The perfect boom or bust example. Because of his skill set and size, if he never translate his scoring ability in the pro's, he wont ever make it with the habs or any other team. We have to right to be confident about him but the classic not productive enough to be a top 6 and useless on a bottom 6 player is very probable in his case.
A 1st: With the way Bergevin changed the team, this pick is pretty much sure out of the top 15 and probably even in out of the top 20. The chances you have picking up an impactful player at this point of a draft are very thin. The average is about 4 good players each year from 15 to 31, so a big 25% chance of hitting good. !st round pick out of the top 10 are very overrated.
PLD is the best player in the trade by a large margin. For colombus to part ways with him for raw potential, it will have to be very enticing both in quantity and quality. So this is why ''that much''.
