PLD Trade - Rebuild

Created by: HeinousFulcrum
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2021
Published: Jan. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I really like Mantha's game. I think he lacks engagement at times, but he is an elite winger in the NHL, with the ability to be a perennial 30 goal scorer. Detroit has a wealth of winger depth.
Pierre-Luc Dubois has asked for a trade, and he fits perfectly in Detroit. He's a young, good two-way center, built in a similar mold to Larkin. A player who'll be just under a point-per-game pace, while being defensively responsible. With this acquisition, Detroit solidifies its center depth for the foreseeable future.
This would be the starting point for this trade, but I can see Detroit having to pay a bit more. Columbus receives an elite winger, a B prospect in Wallinder, a veteran defensive center with elite faceoff skills in Glendening, and a 2nd round pick in 2021.
A 1st round pick is a no starter. Mantha is enough compensation for that. Would be willing to include a different prospect, but looking at Columbus's depth, it seems the left side on their defense lacks depth. Would also be willing to substitute either Fabbri or Namestikov for Glendening.
For fun, I also added the next 2 draft picks I could foresee Detroit picking. This year Detroit needs to grab one of the top LHD prospects like Hughes, Power, Lambos, or Edvinsson. The following year they need to select a top forward prospect and Nazar oozes skill and potential. Other choices could be Jack Devine, Maddox Flemming, or the other Jack Hughes. If Detroit wins any of the lotteries in the 2022 draft, this team turns into a contender overnight (Wright, Lambert, Savoie, McGroarty).

Value seems fair, But i doubt Yzerman trades Mantha after just resigning him to a new 4 year deal.

This isn't even close for PLD. Think about the offers that they will get for him.

Only piece of real value here is Mantha.

Mantha, 1st, Zadina, Hronek, Seider. These are the pieces that would need to be involved.

What are you suggesting as fair value then? As Mantha is included like you mentioned.

Mantha, Berggren and a 2nd (if not multiple). Zadina and Veleno. Hronek and a 1st. Seider straight up probably.

Luke is barely a 4th liner on his way out, Wallinder is a mediocre prospect, at best, and I don't think a 2nd interests CBJ at all unless some studs are in there.

Is Mantha + Berggren + 2nd really that much of a difference from OP? You said “this isn’t even close for PLD” but the only difference you really did was switch Wallinder for Berggren. I’m not sure I’d say Wallinder is a mediocre prospect at best considering the glowing endorsement he got from Hakan not so long ago. Wallinder has an extremely high ceiling but is a few years away.

I dont think anyone but Wings fans care what Hakan says, to be quite frank. Berggren is a more legit prospect and that still probably isn't enough.

PLD is going to get legit offers. The OP is not one.

I’ve seen various team fans on this site praise Hakan on his scouting and I’d wager a good number of teams would kill to have him in their Euro scouting department.

You can disagree with that all you want but there isn’t a huge value difference between those two prospects which is why I initially asked the question.

"team fans"...Hakan is just another euro scout now. Every team scouts in Europe, I don't think Hakan knows anything they don't. Difference back then when Dats and Z were drafted was Hakan was the only one looking (Wings last 10 or so years of draft picks proves that pretty easily).

Point is, the types of pieces I expect to be included in the eventual trade for PLD put that offer to shame. Only way we get him is if we give up at least two of our main pieces or next year's 1st, which then makes no sense for us.

Let’s just ignore the portion about how I said FO personnel probably have him in high regard. Let’s face it we’re both speculating but at least mine has an appeal to authority of a professional scout with a proven track record. So given that Wallinder and Berggren aren’t that far off in terms of value I don’t see how your offer puts OP’s to shame. What do you see Berggren’s realistic upside? I see him as a mid 6 offensive winger.

Middle 6 likely, and like I said that probably isnt enough still.

Mantha and a 1st
Zadina and Veleno
Hronek and a 1st
Seider

Thats the type of stuff it would take. Not Mantha and a bunch of leftovers.

Our first round pick is more than fair considering PLD is requesting a trade as it’s going to be a top 5 pick. Attaching Mantha or Hronek is a massive overpay. If you want to attach a mid level prospect or roster player to the first then okay but attaching our best defensemen or winger really is robbing Peter to pay Paul. I’m not a huge fan of trading for him either since his team control is only a few years and may to move elsewhere anywhere.
