I mean cmon Laf is clear cut better at the moment... his coach is just a moron

His play hasn’t impressed me yet but Quinn has a history of giving rookies few minutes.

Yamamoto and Kaprizov elite

Quoting: mhockey91
Kap might be a surprise, but no way is Yamamoto elite

Quoting: Cdn_bacon
Yamamoto has 1st line potential, he's already a 2nd liner for sure. Elite is probably out of reach.

Quoting: ConnorMcHellebucyk
It was more of an exaggeration because he’s arguably the best of the bunch right now

Quoting: mhockey91
Best of the bunch? He’s arguably one of the lowest ranked guys

I'm not sure what definition you guys use for "elite", but it's worth noting that since he broke into the league fulltime December 31, 2019, Yamamoto is tied for 6th in the league in 5v5 scoring with Patrick Kane. If that's not "elite" I don't know what is.

A lot of people said that we shouldn't trust his sky-high scoring rates from last year (3.16 P/60, 1st on the team), but he's actually stepped that up through the first 5 games this season, posting 3.60 P/60, good for #1 on the team. That's impressive - a supposedly complimentary winger outscoring his superstar center. Frankly I'm surprised, I starting to think he's better than I (and many others) have given him credit for.

Look at his numbers in the AHL prior to get called up. He’s carried by Drai. He’s no elite player. He’s a fine complementary player

It's illogical to say Yamamoto is being "carried by Draisaitl" when he's actually outscoring Draisaitl.

2019-20 (from Dec 31 only)
KY: 3.16 P/60
LD: 3.01 P/60

2020-21
KY: 3.60 P/60
LD: 2.71 P/60

Like most elite players, they benefit from playing with each other.

You’re right that elite players feed off each other, but Yams definitely hasn’t proven to be elite. Sheary lead the league in 5v5 P/60 one season and no one was running around claiming he was elite. Let’s see how Yams does over a longer sample size

Draisaitl was not good in the AHL either, should we discount his back to back 100+ seasons just because of that?

I didn't say he was as I'm not sure the definition of the word. I simply pointed out that he's getting elite results and that he's full value for them. This isn't a guy riding someone else's coattails.

How long does a guy have to post elite results for you to call him elite? Do you consider Kaprizov elite? He has 4 NHL games under his belt. What about Lafreniere? 3 NHL games and zero points. Is Jack Hughes elite? Crap results in his 1st year, only 3 games this year with elite results. How about Suzuki? Terrible scoring rates at 5v5, his totals are driven by being gifted PP time, which Yamamoto isn't. Glass? 41 NHL games at below-replacement level scoring.

I bet you think a few of these guys are elite, and they haven't even earned it. Why the double standard?

I don’t consider any of those guys elite yet. I think some of them absolutely will be, but not yet. There is no double standard.

This isn’t even relevant. He played 6 games in the AHL and clearly proved he’s one of the best players in the NHL.
