I've never been a big fan of Carlo. Fine player, but imo, one of the more overrated Dmen out there. Wouldn't make this swap.

I'm absolutely the guy that calls Nylander a 61 point winger. That's just a fact. We can make all the excuses in the world, but it won't change that his career high is 61 points. Will he break that this year? I fully expect him to, YES. ***EDIT*** I forgot about the shortened season...I hope for his sake he gets that monkey off his back*** I also get on Malkin and Kane for being 1 dimensional players too. Both of light years ahead of Nylander, but that's a different post. I can also admit I like Kane more than Malkin...because of my bias. I fully understand and admit that. The whole Saad vs Nylander is comparing apples and orange. Saad is a powerful 2-way top line winger. He's that way for the Aves too. He didn't lose value just because he's not on my team. He's a playoff built player that helps allow the other more one dimensional players (Nylander) focus on their singular dimension. I guess I value 2-way players more than most and I'm allowed to have that opinion.

Nylander is 2 way. He is just branded as 1 dimensional

Carlo wouldn't be enough to get Robertson.

Lol, sure. 🙄

Carlo isn't all that special. He's good and dependable but that's all. Robertson could be a 30 goal scorer. That is worth more than a 2nd pair defensive defenceman

That's some hefty bait for your trolling venture.

I think it’s pretty reasonable. The bruins just lost half their D. They aren’t giving up their second best one for a prospect.

Could be. Until then he’s a decent but not great prospect that you’d have to package with a high end pick to get an established good young player.

He's only a decent not great prospect because he was drafted by the Leafs.

Someone has a complex.

I don’t give a 💩who he was drafted by. What he wears for laundry does not change who he is. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Except he is every bit as highly touted as Perfetti and Raymond and many of the other guys picked in the 1st round this past year but somehow is only just a decent prospect.

He would have gone before Perfetti and he would have been the top goalscorer in the draft. He is without a doubt a top 10 pick in this draft had he been a couple of days later.

Perfetti is a much better prospect and will likely be a star 1C. Robertson is a very good prospect but would have been selected 11-14 range.

55 goals in 46 games, by far the best goal scorer in the draft

Lafreniere, byfield, stutzle, Raymond, holtz, drysdale , Rossi, perfetti, Askarov, lundell definitely get selected before Robertson. Like I said , in the 11-14 range.

Taking Robertson over perfetti would be a mistake

I just think the bias is in your favor. I don't have a horse in this race and you do. There are zero Blackhawks in this trade. I watch the Bruins and Leafs as a neutral observer. Holl indeed had a decnet year. I said as much. Robertson being a top 10 pick? Isn't this the definition of hometown bias... When the player that your team drafted all of a sudden becomes a top 10 pick/prospect when other players in the same league performed better? Do you really think he'd be picked over Perfetti or Rossi? They got 111 points and 120 points respectively. Robertson got 86 and is a year older.

It is generally agreed (i think even Bob Mackenzie said this but dont quote me on that) that if Robertson was like 5 days younger he would have been a top 10 pick in 2020 instead of a 2nd rounder in 2019. He compares very closely (and is better in many ways) to Jack Quinn specifically who went 7th and is only 8 days younger than Robertson...

Going ahead of Rossi or Perffeti? I would argue that he could have. To your point regarding the points, Rossi put up 120 in 56 games (or 2.14 per game)and Perfetti put up 111 in 61 games (or 1.82 per game). Robertson put up 86 in 43 games (or 2.00 per game), so as you can see he was right between the two of them as far as production goes. Most importantly, Robertson is NOT a year older than both of them... He is 12 DAYS older than Rossi and just under 4 months older than Perfetti...

This is pure hypothetical obviously but there is a very real argument to be made for why Robertson would have been a top 10 pick this year.

okay, so lets say you are spot on with your evaluation that Robertson would have gone 11-14...

You are saying that you wouldn't trade Carlo for the 14th overall pick this year and a slight downgrade (if that) at his position?

That is still crazy...

This isnt a knock on Perfetti. He will likely be a very good NHLer and probably should have gone higher than 10th. Many things go into who gets picked in the top 10 like positional need and existing personell. This is obviously a hypothetical and Robertson could have gone after Perfetti this year, but based on his goal scoring ability and that he plays the wing who is to say that Buffalo wouldnt have taken him at 7? They have Eichel who already has first line center locked down for the next decade+ so they would be more inclined to take a goal scoring winger who will play with him rather than another playmaking center.

Like I said, it is impossible to know the exactly how it would have played out. Two different GMs will even make different decisions with the same exact team. The point is that Robertson is in that category of players drafted this year and holds significantly more value than Carlo brings in return.
