Why trade Tatar for a 4th liner?

Throw in and Montreal needs depth. Wagner has a cheap salary but they get a good prospect defenseman

Why would LA give up all that for a rental in a year where they're going to be competing for the league basement?

What do we need with a good prospect defenseman? We currently have Mete, Fleury, Brook, Guhle, Norlinder, Struble and Harris as good prospect defensemen or players under 22y.o.

Why would a rebuilding team like Los Angeles trade a second-rounder, a third-rounder, an A prospect RD and a roster player for one year of Tomas Tatar? Didn't Las Vegas make that mistake with him? He's having a fine time in Montreal -- let him stay there.

Only picked Tatar because he's a free agent at season end. Los Angeles is in the weakest division and I could see them competing with Minnesota for the 4th seed. They are the only team that has cap space that could use a winger.

Your reasoning makes perfect sense from Montreal's point of view, but I don't think we have the inclination to pay that kind of price for Tatar.
