Attempting to be more competitive next year

Created by: Wadejos123
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks select best D available, probably Power or Hughes, but they don't play in the NHL right away. This still isn't a playoff team probably but getting healthy and getting an NHL caliber goalie would go a long way. I could very well see Strome being traded is Barrett impresses enough in camp/the start of next year to win the 3C spot. Zadorov trade probably happens down the line to make room for Power/Hughes, unless Kieth decides he wants out first

I can't see Seabs NOT waiving. It could still be DeHaan they take though.

seabs waiving would be even better. What's the sweetner we need to attach to move him?

How so? Unless he really believes he has a role to play on a contender, I would figure he just takes the paycheck. I’d love it if he waived, don’t get me wrong, I am concerned about what we’d need to give up though, especially if he ends up on LTIR for the rest of his contract.

If he's LTIR then I'm sure he doesn't care where his contract is because he won't need to move. The only way he waives IMO is if there's a side deal with Bowman that he won't be traded. Seabs has a family that i don't think he wants to move. Stan will do that all day just so he can protect more people and guide Seattle to what he wants vs want Seattle wants. I'm not saying he's leaving the Hawks. Just that we all know Seattle isn't taking him.

Seabs will waive if the Hawks don't play him much. The guy is too much of a competitor to sit on the bench; he wants to play more then money. That being said, Hawks would have to attach quite a sweetner to move him such as Boqvist, a 1st rounder, Strome, etc.

not worth it if we're gonna rebuild. I would rather just buy him out next offseason

His buyout doesn't really do much until the last year of his agreement if I'm not mistaken

If we're rebuilding then the cap hit doesn't matter too much. Buying him out lets him still get his money as well as sign freely to compete with another team While he also doesn't clog up a roster spot for young guys here. Seems like the best of both worlds. Yeah we could just have him sit in the press box for 4 years but we have too much respect for him to do that
