Created by: Richard88
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2021
Published: Jan. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
COL
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Toews would be an incredible 3C for this team for the duration of Mackinnon's current contract. Cup winner, elite defensively, and just put up 60 points in 70 games.

Toews has already been paid a $5m signing bonus this year, so the remaining money due to him is $15.8m. 50% retention is $7.9m over 3 seasons in real cash. And $5.25m against the cap. Both of which are reasonably manageable.
CHI
  1. Compher, J.T.
  2. Graves, Ryan
  3. Newhook, Alex [Reserve List]
  4. Zhuravlyov, Danila [Reserve List]
  5. 2021 1st round pick (COL)
  6. 2022 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Chicago get a top 6 C prospect as a 1-2 punch with Dach. Plus a LHD and middle 6 C to help their weak team this season. Compher is from Illinois fwiw.

idk what Chicago would do about this. I would certainly consider it if I were them. Toews would definitely be above Kadri though. He'd be the 2C not the 3C

I'd say Toews is untrade-able, but this seems like quite the overpay.

I've shown in my previous Danault AGM's that Avs can fit in another C at around $5.5m with not much problem. Just need to lose Graves to Seattle and trade one of Compher/Donskoi to make room.

On paper it doesn't matter who is the 2C or 3C. The 3rd line is arguably stronger than the 2nd line in this AGM, with Saad and Donskoi VS Nichuskin and Burakovsky. It's more just a matter of matchups in games.

This sort of lineup would allow Bednar to just roll the top 3 lines pretty evenly at 5v5, so other than matchups it makes little difference how they're listed on paper.

A top 10 in the league prospect, 2 1sts, a top 4 dman and a 3C, for a 32yr old on LTIR who the goal is to play 2C? That is a special sort of not good. Damn I get you dislike JT but you’re talking about a return I would dole out for say Barkov.

Not only landeskog and makar but a 2 million dollar goalie wage increase.

I doubt Grubauer gets more than $5m.

Lehner got $5m x 4 and he was a bonafide starter, whereas Grubauer has never played a super heavy starter workload.

Lehner didn’t hit free agency. Markstrom got 6 million so somewhere in between for sure.

Lehner was a pending UFA though, so he had leverage.
