I like the Bonino deal but I feel like giving up Timmins for Merzlikins is pretty steep.

Would you need to move Francouz for cap reasons? If not, maybe a first and a lighter prospect instead of him? I think having Francouz at 3G would be more beneficial in down the stretch.

Columbus seems to like Merzlikins the most think Korpasalo is most likely available.

Seems reasonable. Merzlikins is waiver exempt and would solve our goaltending for a few years. Assuming of course that he resigns in 2022 for a reasonable caphit, which would be my only trepidation with trading a big package for him.

I'm going to share a little story.

From October of 2013 until January of 2018 I worked at what was formerly the Embassy Suits Hotel in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, which was maybe 5 blocks away from the Xcel Energy center. Specifically I oversaw, restocked, and bussed tables during the complementary breakfast in the hotel's open air atrium and cafeteria. Given our proximity to the X, we routinely hosted fans going to the games from out of state or staying in the city on a extended basis from more rural areas across Minnesota. This is also true of other sports and their respective franchise fanbases as well.

I can tell you right now, my greatest memories and moments while working in the hospitality industry was and always will be, my conversations with other teams fans.

It's how I know Winnipeg Jets fans are as nuts and knowledgeable about hockey as we Wild fans are.

It's how I know for a fact, that Aves fans are probably the 4th most knowledgeable fanbase in the continental United States.

And all of them, are genuinely some of the nicest people you can ever meet. Most of them just want to have a great conversation about their favorite sport, although teasing and trashtalking are part of the overall tradition.

This goes for all fans.

You can hate the franchise, you can even hate specific players on any given team.

But never hate the other teams fanbases. That's just wrong.

Ranta has looked good, but I'm not convinced we would be interested. Given our lack of center depth, and that Bonino would be perfect for the Aves. Especially with retention, I think we'd ask for Jost, plus a pick.

Given the pieces involved it looks like we're in a catch 22 situation. It's a broken record at this point.

It probably isn't, but the issue is your asking us to retain when we're already pretty close to the cap. Especially after the Cole trade. We currently have $137,638 in available cap space after the fact and are already retaining on Dubnyk's $2.16M.

You're asking us to retain a full 50% on Bonino's contract on top of that. Jost certainly helps, given our positional needs, but the value back is less then to be desired. I think a 3rd or at minimum a 4th is more than reasonable given the retention.

As for a pick back on our end, I don't have an issue with it. But our 21' 7th is currently unavailable, given it's conditional status in the Bjugstad trade with Pittsburgh. So unless your happy with a 22 pick maybe bump that up to a 6th.
