Shakeup

Created by: Claesson4Norris
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2021
Published: Jan. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stepan and Dadonov have no chemistry out there. Something needs to change to get Dadonov going. Stepan makes way more sense for what DJ wants from that 4th line, and White deserves a chance to show what he can do with real minutes.

The 4th line hasn't been close to good enough, and Coburn has been getting worse and worse every game. Sit the lot of them. Galchenyuk has been competant, but he's never going to play on DJ's 4th line, so I think Chlapik deserves to play.

Zaitsev has actually looked like the player the Sens thought he was, so there’s no reason to take him away from Chabot. Guddy hasn't been really notably good or bad, and Reilly has been adequate. J.Brown is way better than Coburn, so Coburn is out for Wolanin. If the D continues to under perform, it won't be long til Brannstrom gets his look.

Murray was hung out to dry, but he still wasn't good enough. Hogberg was solid last year, so he deserves the net next game.

This team needs to show they actually care on Saturday. They didn't show up Tonight.

Wait, I thought this team was supposed to be a bottom feeder? They play a couple strong games and you want them to do that every night?

There’s a difference between being projected to finish last in a tough division, and being a bottom feeder. The Sens should still be competing hard, and staying close. They may finish last in the North, but they aren’t one of the bottom feeder teams.

I mean, what do you define bottom feeder? Bottom 5? Bottom 3? They're right around there. Either way they're likely last in the North division.

Bottom feeder wouldn’t be defined as a last place team in a division, it would be a last place team in the league. Detroit could be defined as a bottom feeder team, but that’s their goal. Ottawa’s goal is to start winning games.

They're supposed to play hard and put young players in a position to succeed. They're not doing either right now

And further to that point, outside of the top line and Chabot, the Sens aren't playing a single player under the age of 24 on a regular basis since Jimmy got injured.

Tkachuk (20) - Norris (21) - Batherson (22)
Galchenyuk (26) - Stepan (30) - Dadonov (31)
Paul (25) - Tierney (26) - C. Brown (26)
Paquette (27) - Anisimov (32) - Watson (28)

Chabot (23) - Gudbranson (28)
Reilly (27) - Zaitsev (28)
Coburn (35) - J. Brown (26)

They're a rebuilding team and yet the average age of the bottom 9 is 28, and the D outside of Chabot is 29. The average age of the entire team is 27. There are 4 kids out of 18 players while 23 and 25 year olds sit on the bench (White, Wolanin), a 23 year old was waived and claimed (Balcers), 23, 24 and 25 year olds with potential are on the taxi squad (Chlapik, Jaros, Zub), and both a 21 year old and a 22 year old with enormous ceilings were sent to the AHL that has yet to start (Brännström, Brown).

The fact that DJ Smith was using the "young mistakes" argument to cover for his band of 30 year olds costing them the first game is ridiculous.
