100% agree need to keep away from PLD. Although I'm not sure the Canes do this trade unless someone like Nino/Gardiner are going back for cap reasons (which WPG probably wouldnt take). Would make their cap situation difficult next year assuming they sign Laine, Svech, Hamilton to deals totaling $20M-ish, that leaves only $10M to sign 2 goalies, 1 D, 4 forwards. Think the value on the trade is fair, just handcuffs the canes from a cap perspective.

Or, alternatively, they sign-and-trade Hamilton at the trade deadline, likely to the Ducks, as a separate move if the extension talks lead to Erik Karlsson money or something nearly as insane.

I think a Hamilton sign-and-trade deal with Anaheim would revolve around Josh Manson + their 1st round pick this year. Despite it being a high pick, this draft is looking like the ultimate crapshoot, with a ton of COVID-centered scouting question marks. Getting a for-sure franchise guy to 1-2 punch with Drysdale for the next 8 years, instead of potentially busting hard on a pick, may be a smart choice for Anaheim.
