Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson is the best line in the league right now.

Just so i understand this properly... Calgary wld be acquiring their top line LW for a bottom 6 likely draft bust and a 5'9 Russian who may never even come to the NHL? Hmmm O_o

How can an NHL regular be a bust? Also Zavgorodny left Russia to come to the Flames camp and played in the Q last year, his chamces of coming to NA vs staying in Russia are pretty good.

Anyways, I don't like Drouin's game. If habs want to keep him no complaints here.

The "BUST" term refers to him being a top 5 pick in the draft and not looking much more than a 3rd liner at this point in his career... I never said he wasn't serviceable, but i'm sure i can speak for most CGY fans and pretty much every NHL fan - if you're drafting someone at #4 overall, you don't want him to end up in ur bottom 6.

Nobody thinks he is worth that top 5 pick anymore, him not living up to his draft pedigree and being a bust are 2 completely different things

Not living up to your potential is the exact definition of why a guy wld bust. If you pick a player top 10 in the draft and he just simply "makes an NHL roster" and doesn't really have an impact as a top 6 F - top 4 D - #1 G, that's a Bust brother. Altho yes, there may be varying levels of *BUSTS* ie: Yakupov or say someone like Michael Dal Colle/ comparative to Sam Bennett.

We can agree to disagree here then. Your definition is different from mine.

I disagree to disagree haha but seriously just curious... what is your definition then? A bust has to be someone who never plays a single game in the league??

I bust is a player who fails to stick with the NHL regardless of their draft position. Bust is essentially short for busted which means doesn't work. If a player struggles to make an impact in the NHL then it obviously isn't working for them meaning they are probably a bust.

Your definition also defines Nichushkin as a Bust since he was a top 10 pick that didn't pan out as an elite top 6 player. Yet he still managed to salvage his game and find a different way to be useful after going over to Colorado. He was 9th in Selke voting last year.

Funny you say that because I was just looking at him before previously commenting about Dal Colle. He's definitely on the cusp of almost busting imo and I'm sure in hindsight, Dallas would have liked to develop him better or made a different pick at 10.

But that's the issue is you categorize players who have redefined their game to stay relevant like Nichushkin, Bennett, Virtanen, and even the Strome brothers as busts because they didn't become elite. Drafts are betting on 18 year olds, rarely are they remotely close to finished products by then.

I wldnt call the Stromes busts... they're both top 6 Centremen on their respective teams. But yeah I understand your point. However, just because a guy has switched up his game to stay relevant, I don't classify being relevant as a non-bust. You're right tho it's hard for 18 year olds to actually achieve and surpass their upside when drafted inside the top 10.

To me Bust is a final verdict on a player. You took a gamble on them and got nothing out of it.
