Description
Kadri waives his NTC to play for the Canadiens as he was a fan of them as a kid, and will probably re-sign there cheaper than Danault. TOR fans get to hate Kadri even more (though a lot now seem to want him back......go figure!?!). Avs get a new younger #2C which is apparently what Danault wants to be. The picks are for sh!ts and giggles as it looks like MTL is trying to get extra ones in every round so I'm just trying to help them out, as I've no idea what extra would need to be added for balance.

MTL dont need Kadri's offence and he cant keep opposition's first line in check like Danault. Nice try but pass.

Preferable to potentially losing him for nothing though, no? That's assuming the rumour mill is correct in that he turned down either 5x5 or 6x5 mil per?

Edited as I put 5x6 rather than 6x5.

That's kind of silly. Steve Yzerman was a member of the Wings during the Avs/Wings rivalry but if he'd been available for the Avs, I'd have been champing at the bit to get him. Same for most of the Wings at the time. Just because somebody WAS on a rival team isn't really a good reason to not make a trade. SMHL!

kadri isnt on yzermans level
its like if we traded byron for lucic or like if the avs traded for emelin after that hit against iginla

I would do it in a heartbeat. Danault wants 6years 5.5mil + so atleast we wldn't be losing Phil for nothing and acquiring Naz for 2021-22 season at 4.5 seems like a no brainer for an interchangeable 2nd/3rd line C.

Bergy is all in for a Championship and wont be a seller at the TDL. He will not weaken the team for one year of Kadri.

Sometime your own UFAs are your TDL acquisition, like CLB did with Panarin and Bro.

No way, Kadri may be better offensively but defensively he isn't half as good as Danault. That would be like the Boston Trading Bergeron for Danault cause Danault is younger.

Well it seems some agree with me that letting PD go now and getting Kadri is a smart move, so I guess I could say the same about you not getting it. Opinions vary!

I thought Colorado were keeping Kadri so Newhook could eventually replace him, since they'll both be on the team next season and they can plan out their steps then. Danault expires this season, meaning you'll either have to extend him for like 6 years or potentially overpay someone in UFA.

Fair point. That might be one way to go and probably what Colorado are currently intending. Yes, Danault would need extending but the Avs could do that assuming they aren't looking to re-sign Saad or look to move two of Compher/Donskoi/Graves (depending on who gets taken in expansion as it's most likely one of those three). Lots depends on other moves and what's planned. This was more an attempt to shore up the defensive C issues for Colorado and give MTL a good replacement in Kadri working on the assumption that the rumours that Danault had refused to sign were true. Danault can easily hold the spot for Newhook then in the same fashion as it will take him time to develop (I would project a third to a half of whatever contract Danault would sign, assuming a 6 year deal). Then the option is to move Danault or retain him as a #3C. All hypothetical as everything is on here.

I think a lot of Avs fans would readily trade Kadri for Danault if he came with an extension. Kadri puts up offense in bursts, but he doesn't really control the game shift-to-shift.

The trick with any long term deal for Danault would be to ensure that there's no NTC beyond Mackinnon's contract. Newhook will also need a raise in 2024 most likely, if not 2023. So carrying Danault long-term at around $6m might be tricky.

That said, Danault would be easier to build a line around due to his impeccable defensive play, and I'd rather be overpaying a C than a winger. With Danault you can stick a couple of rookies on ELC's like Kaut on his wing and the line is still going to be reasonably good.

That said, Sakic doesn't strike me as a GM who would trade for a player and immediately give them a hefty raise.

I agree, I'm sure he'd want to see 'proof of the pudding' so to speak before signing him to a long term deal.

Whilst this was to help the Avs this year, and help MTL out if Danault doesn't want to re-sign, I wouldn't be opposed to them waiting 'til free agency and then signing Danault after they trade Kadri to MTL for a second round pick or something so MTL loses both ways. Effectively giving up Danault plus a second for Kadri to enable themselves to have one more season of Danault as some MTL fans seem to want lol.

Don't even bother with him man he's a complete douche who thinks he knows better than everyone. And then when you argue his point he makes passive aggressive comments and "threatens" to put you on his ignore list, as if we shld give 2 craps about that happening lmao

You'd think by the way that he talks that he wouldn't still be some keyboard warrior but yet he'd have Bergevin's job instead... Some ppl are too thick skulled it's not even worth the trouble.

Interesting proposition. Alot of points raised in the comments make sense for both sides. If I knew 100% PD wasn't resigning with MTL I'd do the trade. Even if Kadri's D game isn't at PD's level and that he's a hot head, I'd still do it. But I'd want AVS to throw in a 2022 or 2023 2nd instead of the late picks in 2021. Saying that I'd still prefer a 36 yro Carter.

Interestingly exactly what came back in another thread and I'd say fair deal.

Yeah I got an infraction for calling him out, seems he's pretty much a troll who cries when people won't agree with him.

Wow well that's a shame that you were just being honest and upfront I didn't see an issue or infraction there at all... and that's strange, but most of his angry/upset comments have now suddenly disappeared from above... I wonder if he deleted them as to not get an infraction as well.
