I would say they are more likely because they have more cap space.
But also the superstar cornerstone of the deal wants to go somewhere were her could win.
So I would say that it is possible to go to a bad team but more likely a great player to be traded to another good team.

rangers are going to be great in a year or two imo. cup contenders 2023 easily.

That is if all their pieces turn out and keep developing.

kandre looking like a perfect top 4 defender for us. jones and lundkvist also looking like sure fire defensive pieces of the future along with robertson. Our defense for the future will have kandre,fox,lindgren,lundkvist,robertson,jones,trouba. Our forward core is already looking good with chytil taking a huge step forward. kakko is looking so much better this year as well and our young guys will get better. goaltending is still young so we wait, though we have some great goalie prospects as well.

Players like Zibanejad or Barkov are not suitable for a deal with Eichel, they are great players, but they have very little term.

But they will probably finish 7th or 8th in the division this year. Buffalo would want fox/Laf back. Rangers probably wouldn’t make that move which means jack won’t be a Ranger.

this team is the youngest in the league.
they are technically still in a rebuild.
the Rangers have held a +.500 win percentage throughout their rebuild.
they are still a better team than the Sabres, who will finish below them in standings.

If you are going to give up zibanejad, krieder, strome, and deangelo, then U need more with Eichel, like Skinner, and another one.

The only issue I see is you have over $20M in cap space going to BUF and only $10M coming back, there is going to have to be a better balance than that.
