Boston will keep Coyle and that contract. Disagree with your opinion but respect the fact that you might know about bad contracts. Malkin falling off a cliff at 9.5M for 2 years, Zucker at 5.5M for 3 years and the gold standard, Matheson 6 years at 4.875M. That's the cost of being good and trying to stay relevant as long as possible.
When you think Malkin who was well over a PPG player last year is a "bad contract" and "fell off" Hell in 55 games last year he had 50 points in even strength alone. How does an almost point per game even strength player become a bad contract????????
Zucker as well had 12 points in 15 games for the penguins last year. Not exactly looking like a "bad contract"
Now that Matheson contract is no doubt a bad contract currently. No one is going to argue that. But at least I'm honest about it.
You are paying Coyle 5.4 million and he can't grab up more than 30 some points and even hit 20 goals.
Be honest about your bad contracts, you'll sound like you actually know something about hockey. No player making 5.4 per pulling those kind of numbers is earning his weight.
And yes, it would be just another bad contract on the penguins who have had to deal with their share of them lately. But at least I can be honest about which ones aren't working out.
As for this year, it's way to early to go off on what ones are good or bad etc... these guys didn't have real camps, no exhibition no nothing. Don't expect too much from anyone at this point. There are a lot of players still trying to get up to speed.
