Off-season with Kuznetsov trade

Created by: brady_t12
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2021
Published: Jan. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With McMichael, Protas, and Lapierre coming up through the system as well as Eller being under contract a few more seasons, we can sacrifice Kuznetsov in a trade that benefits the caps now and for the future by addressing the 2RHD position and getting a draft pick.

If you want to change the value on the trade, I think the core trade of Kuznetsov for Dumba makes sense for both teams.

I'd hope to God that Guerin is smart enough to pass on that trade, fast.

Realistically it should be 1 for 1
Maybe MIN add but not a major piece

I'm curious why you would say that?

I get that he's off to a rough start given the covid suspension/punishment for the protocol breach, and isn't exactly great defensively or at all. But the guy is a top six center and would light it up with either Kaprizov or Fiala as his wingers. We're also a defensively strong enough team for it to not be an issue.

If it's the contract that worries you, while it isn't great it's still fairly decent enough to where we could still afford both Kaprizov and Fiala.

If this was done at the deadline we could easily move Bonino on top of this trade to get the required cap space needed to make this work.

If it was done after the season was finished the UFA's would be coming off the books anyway.

2021 1st if MIN makes the playoffs and a 2022 1st if MIN misses the playoffs ?

    Reasonable...

Although I'd hesitate on using the 2022 1st given how deep that drafts going to be, and picks that will be far more certain of a prospect than a 2021 1st round prospect thanks to covid. Plus Shane Wright. wink

What about whichever is the lower of our two 1st rounders this year? Considering we own both ours and Pittsburgh's.

Do dumba straight up or add in Bonino or a 3rd. Something like that. Someone else just suggested rossi be in a deal for kuznetzov. That trade is also very bad for mn

Without trying to get into it too much, I would simply just much rather send that type of value for another center. Preferably a better, younger one on a better contract. (Not saying Kuzy is terrible from any regard there, just not good enough)

Reason being that I began to sour on Kuzy a bit ago and nothing he's done recently is helping him. Still a good player but overrated and overpayed. To me, that's not the type of guy you should be giving up Dumba+ for
