I believe it started as a back and forth of overvaluing/undervaluing. Graves is a prime target to be picked by Seattle this offseason, so whoever started it likely just didn't want to lose him for nothing. Better to keep him as a "Free rental" at this point, unless you're filling a hole up front.

Lol, this Graves drama is pretty funny. He's not really on the block or anything, it's just that he (or Timmins) would likely be the guy moved if Avs want to make a change in their middle 6, given that we have 7 good Dmen.

As for this Jenner-Graves swap, Avs would accept, real nice trade that. It gets Avs a good 3C which is our biggest need.

I doubt Columbus would do this though, because they're thin up the middle now that Dubois is gone. They'd also have to expose Graves in the Expansion Draft unless they expose Gavrikov or go 4+4.

I think Sakic would readily move Graves if he could get a good 3C back. Jenner would be perfect. Good caphit, good term, and versatile enough that he can move to the wing when Newhook is ready to take over 3C.

I agree.

I don't think colorado is in any rush to trade graves. He doesn't look that good to start the season so far but with it being byram and timmins first year i think it is nice to have that extra depth guy who can play top4 if someone goes down with injury.

Are neither of jost or compher a capable 3C?

I think they want to get rid of him and get some value since he would be unprotected in the expansion draft

I would sort of be surprised if the Avs traded anymore D this season. They really needed all the depth they could muster last playoffs and even though Graves has been a little disappointing so far (playing away from Makar will do that for almost anyone), he still knows the team and the system so is valuable to hang on to. If they lose him to Seattle, then they lose him; take the hit and move on.

Right now, Jost is more of a defensive specialist and Compher is just there; a better 3C would be great.

Compher is a decent 3rd liner, but he's just not as good at C. He needs to be on the wing receiving the puck at speed, rather than being the one distributing the puck from center ice.

Jost doesn't have the skating to play C. He's been really effective on the PK this season though so is carving out a little niche for himself in that role.

bc some avs fans are freaking out after 6 games thinking they need to get a 3C as soon as possible and other fan bases think bc he was healthy scratched once during a D rotation that avs need to trade him now before they either lose him for nothing in the draft (if hes picked cool) or his value is tanked (it wont be)

Probably so they won’t lose him for free to Seattle.

Who cares, avs are going to lose a good player no matter what, let them take graves, doesnt matter. The they should trade him so they dont loose him stuff is probably some of the worse strategies on this site.

Does matter. You could get something for him, and lose a worse player. Letting him go to Seattle when you can prevent it isn’t smart.

they are going to lose a good player no matter what....so lose a good player, and then trade a good player for lesser parts bc you are afraid me might get picked?
So how are you any better by downgrading twice?

That’s not downgrading! It’s logic. Trade him, let him take a lesser of a good player. Get some assets, so you don’t let him go for free. A return is better than nothing... but I see where you are going.

Then you can say the exact same thing about Donskoi Compher etc...trade them so you dont lose them for nothing just in case. Doesnt matter, Avs will lose a god player. So who cares who they take, there is no point of trading guys that might not even be picked from a good crop of players from.

You dont have said player if you trade them, you earner getting the same level of player back, just a collection of pieces. So yes you are downgrading

I see where you are coming from... but I still don’t think that’s downgrading. However I see it as you should try to screw Seattle as much as possible.

avs are trying to win the cup before mackinnons contract is up, moving good players out for lesser parts is downgrading. They wont have the same impact as the current player unless some Dumb GM come along and trades high end prospects for these guys which they wont

Personally I don’t really know why people are projecting Graves to get traded, sure he’s a valuable piece and can be traded for a lot. But it may actually hurt the Avalanche more than it could benefit them.
What I mean by that is: Graves will probably be used as bate for Seattle, he is the obvious selection as of right now.
If we move him at the deadline then we might loose someone else to Seattle that we wouldn’t have it Graves still played.
Or at least that’s my opinion and why think Graves will stay.
