Hamilton at the Deadline with an Extension

Created by: Hockyluv21
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2021
Published: Jan. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think a Hamilton and Drysdale 1-2 punch going forward is the making of a contender. With this year's draft being an insane crapshoot due to COVID, this might be the year to deal a high pick to get a for-sure superstar on the back end.

Hidden in Carolina's return is Fowler and his rather steep contract. Freeing up Fowler's $6.5M for 6 years allows Anaheim to afford the "bad team tax" for Hamilton. I also think that Hamilton is the kind of player that will bring Anaheim to Cup-contending status.

Thats not slight thats 2-3 extra at least and for 8 years. Thats exactly the difference between being a contender and not, getting guys on team friendly deals.

You do realize that Hamilton's positive impact on the game is similar to the likes of the Matthews/Marner/Kucherov/Draisaitl/Hedman/Makar talent class, right? This is IMO a pretty fair contract when you consider the "bad team tax" that Anaheim would likely have to pay.

I said that Hamilton is in that echelon of player in terms of impact on the game. I didn't say that he was better than Hedman lol

Why not just wait till 2022-23 and sign Seth Jones in free agency if they don't resign him?

Learn from the Kings, you can't cheat a rebuild, they are doing it the right way.

It takes time and patience, but the end result will be Stanley Cups, just watch.

https://theathletic.com/2319888/2021/01/20/nhl-2020-21-player-value-projections/ - Makar and Hedman tied as the 1/2 defensemen in the NHL at 3.28 GSVA, and Hamilton is at #3 with a 3.22 GSVA. Yeah, they're comparable.

I don't call it cheating a rebuild to deal for Hamilton in exchange for this year's first. Everyone knows just how much of a complete crapshoot that this draft truly is. Instead of gambling on a mystery-box that has a higher-than normal chance of busting spectacularly, how about using the pick to get someone that you know will be a superstar for the majority of the contract?

You do realize by the time your team is ready to contender, he'll be well over 30, right?

Gsva is the most bs stat. I personally hate analytics but this is the worst of the worst. Also when is that for the 3 games hamilton played this year or last year

Yes...and still a good player, most likely. Long-term veteran leadership for the young guys isn't a bad thing.

Hard pass from Anaheim. Hamilton is not worth that much.
