Glass stuck on the bench

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2021
Published: Jan. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
MIN
  1. Glass, Cody
Additional Details:
Vegas can only play 5 D when Glass is in the lineup. My guess is they'll try to move one of their depth D or forwards, but if they open up offers on him the Wild need to get a deal done.
VGK
  1. Beckman, Adam
  2. 2021 1st round pick (PIT)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
No clue on what he'd cost

LVK needs to shed cap. I'm sure you know this, but that's why they can't have 6 Dmen out there. It's not that they want to trade away Cody Glass.

Completely agree. I think they'll find a way to move one of their depth players but in this flat cap world it's harder to find trade partners to get a deal done.

As already explained about VGk’s cap but this offer is would need to be Rossi ++ and still doesn’t make sense for VGK.

I'd assume they'll shuttle him back and forth all year until they get to the playoffs. Their only other option is to waive someone, but that leaves them in a pretty vulnerable position depth-wise. He's pretty friggin' valuable at this point though.

Not sure how high his offensive ceiling is, but what about Blake Lizotte from the LA Kings? He has been noticeable so far this year, particularly his speed, and just turned 23. He plays on the 2nd line with Jeff Carter now, but with Gabe Vilardi and all the other centre prospects they have, does Lizotte fit in long-term?

I think Calen Addison would be a better main piece than Adam Beckman

I'd be fine with that. Glass is expansion exempt so we can just protect 8 skaters and keep Dumba.

Would you be interested in Ryan Poehling, who is also expansion exempt?

Not sure how much of an upgrade he is over the centers we have, other than his NHL debut game he's been pretty disappointing. I wouldn't hate taking a chance on him if he's cheap.

I’d say yes on getting glass but I think for Vegas you’d need to expand the trade. Drop the 1st round pick and add cam talbot and fleury. They get their cap relief, we get center and both teams still have a quality goaltending tandem. With that you might even drop Beckman or the 3rd. think that would make more sense all around for both sides.

I think Bonino retained would have to go back as well. They really do need a 3C to move Glass. Even still, I find it unlikely.

For the wilds cap to work they’d need to not retain on bonino.

Glass/Fleury for Talbot/Beckman/Bonino(half retained) and the PIT 2021 1st? Trade Johansson or Cole for a pick or prospect somewhere and the money should work...

I think it’d have to be Beckman or the first. As for the original idea, I think it’s novel and interesting problem solving. I just think they would rather move Fluery retained and keep glass.

It's too bad MN spent all their cap space on random things. Glass would be great to get in MN but I don't think it'll happen without Rossi going back.

And I'm really not. I get that Dumba is the sure thing more or less, and really, I love the guy for what he is. But we really need to stop trying to move Addison just because we think he'll be protected. Or that we should just keep him.

Not only is he our best trade chip, currently, he's taking up valuable cap space that we're going to need in the next couple of years. His days are numbered on this roster, whether it's this year or next doesn't matter. He will get moved at somepoint, and moving out his future replacement is a bad idea.

Sure we also have Menell and Belpedio. And they're nice. But their ceilings are #4 defenseman, while Addison's ceiling is exactly the same as Dumba, a top 4 defenseman. It doesn't make sense to move out the younger, cheaper top 4 option when we'll need that cap space to spend on our forwards group in that same time span.

Statistically Dumba has been MN's best d-man this year. Brodin and Suter have both been better with him than without him.

The point about the cap hit has really never been discussed, and it should be. Maybe Dumba gets moved after next season to force Addison work his way into the top 4. It we are gonna need that cap space, especially if everyone has their sights set on a Barkov or similar guy.

Dumba's cap hit isn't the one that's hurting the team... Suter, Parise, Spurgeon, Zucc, and Rask are the bad contracts.

It’s not a matter of who’s is good or bad, it’s a matter of who’s we can get off our books. The Zucc buyout is not a sure thing in my eyes unless he absolutely craps the bed when he gets back and dead cap from a Rask buyout is not gonna be great.
