Who would we protect Krug Parayko Dunn the problem is you don’t pay attention to hockey enough. All you do is jack off to all the Maple Leaf players bud. Why don’t you come at it straight not be the guy who just hates on the Blues all day long.

Blues protect Krug, Parayko, Faulk. That leaves Dunn exposed.

& seriously, stop trolling me and insulting for no reason. I've stated facts about the team. Just cause you don't like how your team and a player ha performed, doesn't mean you should act out like that.

I'm not hating or trolling St. Louis. I'm talking about the subject that's been brought up. If you don't like my comments, don't read them or block me. I'm not dealing with your bull****.

I haven't paid much attention but is Dunn actually playing really bad? His stats don't even look that bad. The pair of Faulk-Dunn has a xGF% of 66.7 which is better then Krug - Parayko. I mean if the leafs didn't have a ton of defenseman, I would take a chance on him

See, people say he plays "sheltered minutes" but that's not true. The arguments against him are that the Blues aren't using him as a top 4 right now so therefore he must not be a top 4. He's a good defenseman still trying to find that consistency which is common for a 24 year old defenseman.

When the ask is reportedly a 1st, and the fans turn around and think it's a first and a top prospect, it's a pretty solid sign that he's being overrated.

first and a B prospect, or 2nd and a good prospect is what I think is a reasonable return

talk about recency bias. Dunn is a very good young defenseman who has not been given the opportunity. Especially if there is a bidding war, I would not be surprised at all if this was the type of return they got.

He was a sheltered third pairing D the last few seasons so that isn’t a recency bias. You also failed to counter my points, bravo.

No what he has proved was that he was a stud before the Covid shutdown and now that he was out of it and only got 2 weeks to get ready and didn’t even get that because he was on leave. So he didn’t even get a full 2 weeks of practice what that proves was he wasn’t ready for the season start up. He has been one of the best D-man on the team before the COVID shutdown and it’s going to take him sometimes. Berube did the same thing with Thomas a night in the press box does some wonders. I don’t think he’s getting traded until at least TDL. Because there is no reason we would trade him for undervalue and he become a dynamic player again when he’s just in a funk because of COVID.

Funny coming from the guy that chirped Nylander and said he was garbage when he missed training camp and 2 MONTHS of the season, but when your favourite teams player misses 2 WEEKS of practise, all of a sudden it's fine to miss time and it takes time to get going.

Dunn is talented enough to be in the top 4, but the blues have a system where they spread out the talent on their D pairs. They had faulk and dunn on the 3rd pair most of last year because petro gunny and parayko Bouw always played well together. Him being on the 3rd pair doesn't mean anything. His analytics are really good and the market is always high on young defenseman. And he will absolutely be protected in Seattle if they decide to keep him. Faulk will be exposed as Seattle won't be touching that contract. and to use the word "terrible". he had a bad couple games that doesn't mean **** if you look at his career as a whole

He was a sheltered third pairing D the last few seasons so that isn’t a recency bias. You also failed to counter my points, bravo.

"3rd pair". You don't watch the blues every night so you have no idea what you are talking about. They had a system last year where they played their 3 pairings a similar amount. Yes faulk-dunn was the 3rd pair last year but they had more responsibility than a normal "3rd pair"

bro Faulk and Scandella have been amazing this year, so now wonder he is playing with someone else. And he regular partner Bortuzzo has been out most of the year. "walked all over"?? I'll admit the grundtrom goal was bad but you are exaggerating. And yeah Gunnarsson and Pietrangelo played well together thats why he was playing "above him" not necessarily because he is a better defenseman. You obviously no nothing about the Blues. Your opinions are actually cancer

He also played comparable time with Bortuzzo and a little with AP but yes 16 mins and 16 seconds of ice time = 3rd pair. I actually watched a fair bit of STL games because I knew I was moving to STL this year and wanted to get acquainted with team since I’ll be there for almost 4 years so yeah.

The other thing is Dunn won't be cheap long term. So that's the other issue here. We have guys like Mikkola and Perunovich who are ready to be full time guys and no room for everyone.

Can someone explain why Dunn is a top 4 D? His time on ice statistics consistently have him as a 3rd pair D, and not a 3rd pair that’s run evenly with the other pairs (6th most atoi last year, 5th this year, in both cases 3+ minutes below the guy ahead of him even including his PP2 time). If he’s a 3rd pair guy that can run PP2 but needs sheltered even strength ice time and no PK capabilities that’s fine, there’s some value there, but there’s no need to pretend he’s a good top 4 D when he’s never been deployed in that manner. I don’t see any of these teams giving up this much for him, it definitely won’t be a multi-piece deal (at least not multiple good pieces, 1st+B prospect I just can’t see happening) and STL would be lucky to get a late 1st for him imo.

I mean, I think he's a serviceable 2nd pairing guy, but all of this "The Blues run 3 D pairings equally!" stuff is kinda funny, given that he was 6th amongst Blues Dmen in ATOI last year, playing more than 4 minutes per game less than the guy in the #5 spot.

So the thing with Dunn is that he has incredible underlying analytics in the very sheltered role that he has had, among the best in the league. When those are adjusted for quality of competition and time on ice, it would appear that he should be able to handle a bigger role. But, as you said, he's never been deployed that way, and you don't really know until you know. I would just rather know because the Blues played him there than because the Rangers or whoever played him there. I don't think our other options for the top four are overwhelmingly better.

The analytics would suggest that Dunn needs no sheltered time at even strength. There's been a lot of noise about him getting walked a few games ago and like that's bad and I would like him to not do that but defensemen get walked all the time. Pietrangelo got beat by Kyrou just last night and no one is super upset about that because Pietrangelo has pedigree. The thing is Dunn doesn't normally have to make those kinds of 1 on 1 plays because when he's on the ice, he controls a lot of the possession metrics. There's inherent value in something not happening when he's on the ice as there is something that is happening. It's like when goalies make an incredible save, it's usually because they're out of position in the first place,, but really good goaltending isn't going to result in those kind of sprawling plays because they're just in position all the time. If the Blues have the puck most of the time when Dunn is on the ice, he doesn't need to make these incredible defensive plays very often, and that's good because he's clearly not that good at them on the occasions that they do happen, and that sticks in people's minds.

The Blues, meanwhile, have every right to set the asking price very high and I am glad they are doing so. The upside on Dunn is still high enough that it's worth it. He's had similar results to Toews and Toews got two seconds, which I think was too low of a price to begin with.

I'm sorry, was anything I said not true?

                                                              1. Dunn has struggled this season.
                                                              2. He'll be left exposed and taken for free if St. Louis doesn't move him.

Both of those FACTS lower his value significantly. Sorry if that hurts your feelings. But that's not hating on a team at all, it's literally just facts.

So either comment on the actual thread, or don't respond to my comments at all. Get lost.

Funny coming from the guy that chirped Nylander and said he was garbage when he missed training camp and 2 MONTHS of the season, but when your favourite teams player misses 2 WEEKS of practise, all of a sudden it's fine to miss time and it takes time to get going.

Seriously stop responding now. Block me. I'll be blocking you and not putting up with your ****.

No you are hating, this is all you have done since we both joined this 2 years ago. It started with how Parayko was crap, and how Nylander was going to get 15 first round picks, and Parayko because he was significantly better. Then you moved onto how Pietrangelo wasn't as good yet he would come to Toronto for spare parts, then it moved into you overvaluing Liljegren saying he was going to be a Top 5 Defenseman one day, and how Rasmus Sandin was a better defenseman than Parayko will ever be. Then you went to trolling on my page, it's all you have done over the past 2 almost 3 years now is troll the Blues. It's all you do on the page. I could scroll through all of your comments on Blues trades, and not find one single positive comment toward the Blues. It's not facts. What is facts is that he was down from the break. Which he individually isn't doing that bad, he's an Offensive f'king defenseman. One game isn't the end of the world. Just look at Toronto. Who on that blueline core until now was good at defense. Absolutely no one you guys played like crap defensively, and you guys said they were still amazing defenseman like Toronto fans always do, but you gonna come into a Blues page and troll because he made a mistake. gtfoh leave the server while your at it. All you have ever done is troll. It's all you do every day.

You continue to quote me even though you always lead to this. Stop. The moderators have told us both not to respond to each other, so stop. You don't agree with me, cool. I don't care anymore, you've made that clear. Now stop talking to me as we were told before were both infracted. Goodbye.

Alright everyone. These are the Blues' 5v5 time on ice per game numbers from the regular season last year:

                                                              1. Parayko 19.25
                                                              2. Boumeester 18.37
                                                              3. Pietrangelo 18.06
                                                              4. Faulk 17.61
                                                              5. Scandella 17.16
                                                              6. Dunn 14.34
                                                              7. Gunnarsson 13.6

Note that Scandella only played 11 games in this sample.

I have hardly watched St. Louis play at all last year, but I think it's fair to say he was clearly a 3rd pairing defenseman. And this isn't a 'our pairings are balanced so the 3rd pair gets more responsibility' situation. There is a very clear drop-off in ice time when it gets to Dunn. Additionally, he had the most offensive-zone skewed faceoff starts percentages on the team last year (outside of Mikkola, Walman, and Pouliot, who each played 5 games or less). so it's safe to say he did in fact get sheltered usage.

It's completely fine to have your own opinions on who Dunn is and what he can develop into, but to say he wasn't a sheltered 3rd pairing defenseman last year is simply untrue.
