ATTENTION ALL PENGUINS FANS

Created by: Missouri
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2021
Published: Jan. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the injury list on defense pilling up, I think we may need to make a small trade. Now here is what I am thinking....

Drew O'Connor was lights out good in last nights game.
-He fit in on the PP like a regular
-He is a physical big body
-He is young with potential to grow

So hear me out now...

I would expect O'Connor to become a full-time NHLer at some point in this season. With him jumping into the lineup, that leaves us with an excess of Forwards and the odd one out is....

Zach Aston-Reese

I am truly a big fan of Zach but with 3 seasons of playing on the Penguins he hasn't shown much in my eyes. 17 points being his highest point total is far from anything spectacular. (Please leave an explanation if you think I am wrong by saying this)

FINAL SUMMARY:

Now with all that being said, I believe that we trade Zach while he still has some value and he could potentially become a top 6 player that we all expected him to be if he gets a fresh start. I suggest we trade him for a strong top 6 or 7th dman.

Now the part that I need help with is what Dman would you guys suggest????? I gave 5 of my top guys but I would love to hear more ideas!

Here are my thoughts and please give me yours in the comments!

Thanks and keep it positive!

im not comparing him to brent burns im saying he could be the next brent burns

What's the difference? And being the next Brent Burns means winning the Norris, and being a 6-times NHL All-Star

You know maybe later in the season, but at this point I would say defense is our main concern. I personally wouldn't mind Gaudette tho! Virtanen I'm not a huge fan of.

Yea I was thinking probably an offseason move anyway. Would Gaudette for Kapanen be of interest? I know you just got him back so fair if you're hesitant to move him.

Outside of Letang, your whole d-corp would be battling for a roster spot on the Avs, so...

NOOOO. Letang, Dumo, Marino and even MP are better than a majority of your d-core. Johnson is old and overpaid. Graves is basically another Matheson, just puts up less points, Toews is worse than Dumo 100%. Byram and Timmins I haven't seen enough of to know. Makar and Girard I am huge fans of so I can't argue there.

No, I would hope that since we overpaid on Kappy that we keep him until we get his full value out of him. I am optimistic we will but who knows. I'm really not sure what would be a fair trade for Gaudette that we would want to give.

I think the minny one makes the most sense and is the fairest in a one for one. A fwd we won’t protect for a dmen we won’t protect so we don’t get screwed there. Plus if I’m not mistaken, Guerin recruited ZAR when he was with the pens so could convince him that way. Although I think Minny is looking to trade one of their top D that will bring them return.

Last year: Makar outscored Letang. Girard, Toews, and Graves all outscored Dumo and Marino.

Okay, sure. Let's follow that argument:

CF Percentages for Defenseman this season:
          Erik Johnson: 67.6%
          Cale Makar: 62.8%
          Bowen Byram: 57.9%
          Brian Dumoulin: 57.4%
          Devon Toews: 57.1%
          Marcus Pettersson: 57.0%
          Sam Girard: 53.8%
          Kris Letang: 53.1%
          Ryan Graves: 52.8%
          John Marino: 49.0%

Looks like your argument doesn't hold much water, my friend.

Hamonic signed a cheap deal in Vancouver because he was adamant about staying in western Canada. He'd probably not be happy to move to Pittsburgh, to the point that he'd probably retire. Remember this is the guy who sat out the playoffs due to the bubble.

Hamonic signed a cheap deal in Vancouver because he was adamant about staying in western Canada. He'd probably not be happy to move to Pittsburgh, to the point that he'd probably retire. Remember this is the guy who sat out the playoffs due to the bubble.

Yeah good point. I am just a fan of him thats why i suggested him

no hes not we play 7 d makar girard toews johnson graves patryn and ether timmins or byram

          Our D right now is

          Toews -- Makar
          Byram -- Girard
          Graves -- Johnson
          Timmins

Bednar wants to have that big 3rd pairing so that gives Graves the inside track on Timmins, but if he has more bad games that might change.

Okay, sure. Let's follow that argument:

CF Percentages for Defenseman this season:
          Erik Johnson: 67.6%
          Cale Makar: 62.8%
          Bowen Byram: 57.9%
          Brian Dumoulin: 57.4%
          Devon Toews: 57.1%
          Marcus Pettersson: 57.0%
          Sam Girard: 53.8%
          Kris Letang: 53.1%
          Ryan Graves: 52.8%
          John Marino: 49.0%

Looks like your argument doesn't hold much water, my friend.

Alright alright jeez. Cool it dude

Why would the Avs have interest in ZAR?

I mean, you kinda said it yourself in the description: "I am truly a big fan of Zach but with 3 seasons of playing on the Penguins he hasn't shown much in my eyes. 17 points being his highest point total is far from anything spectacular. (Please leave an explanation if you think I am wrong by saying this)"

ZAR isn't an upgrade on what we have. He's the sort of player/contract you throw into a bigger deal just to balance contracts or roster numbers.

Outside of Letang, your whole d-corp would be battling for a roster spot on the Avs, so...

Lol. "My team's so much better than yours."

Last year: Makar outscored Letang. Girard, Toews, and Graves all outscored Dumo and Marino.
This year: Makar, Girard, and Toews are all outscoring Letang.

Hey hey, re-read the trades. "JUST A BASE TRADE REMEMBER" Obviously we would need to add something... like jeez. Come on

Why not propose a semi-realistic trade then, instead of saying "your top 4 LHD for our 4th liner, as a base"....

It's only natural that an AGM with Avs involved is going to attract Avs fans, regardless what the title says. Figured you might want to hear our point of view to form a realistic trade scenario.

I think the d-man PIT needs from MN is Soucy not Hunt.

Making a trade around Soucy (he shouldn't be too expensive) as the main piece coming back would make PIT's defense much better than Hunt (fringe NHLer) would.

Soucy will be exposed for expansion. No reason for Minnesota to trade him unless it's a deal Minnesota can't say no to
