I do think the Sharks need a total rebuild but I don’t like any of the trades you are proposing.

I've been thinking about it for a while now and I'm not so sure. Hronek is Detroit's best defenseman at both ends of the ice at least until Seider makes it to the team but Hronek is still going to be better offensively. I can't see Yzerman trading a player as important as Hronek is for another winger if Meier was a center then maybe. I'm not sure Yzerman would even want Merkley. He can score but he is awful defensively kind of like Ristolainen was a couple of seasons ago. Below is Bob McKenzie take on Merkley.

      Quoting: Bob
Extremely immature hockey player with a massive amount of offensive ability. He’s been described as petulant, and at times I think he’s made his own life in hockey difficult…he’s had poor self-awareness, and a real lack of accountability.

Detroit should hold onto any young top 4 D and continue to add to it. Wingers just don’t have the same value or need for this team considering we have Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Raymond, Zadina, and Berggren making the team in the next two years. Who do we have for top 4 D or top 6 centers? Merkley isn’t very intriguing to me as he can’t play defense to save his life.
