Adding for a run

Created by: MatthewsFan
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Personally I think it’s only a matter of time before Lehtonen goes back to the KHL. He’s not beating out Dermott and if an injury should occur I’d rather see Sandin or Liljegren get the opportunity to evolve there games. IMO there is a place in the NHL for Lehtonen, it’s just unfortunate he will not get that chance with the Leafs. It’s not a good look to trade a free agent signing but IMO the lesser of two evils is to trade him then have him go back to the KHL. Vancouver fans, fair value? I’ve liked Kerfoot of late but I like this look better.

Sens fans is this fair? I realize Paul has been one of the better players this year but could he be available?

I could be wrong but I don’t see a scenario where Jumbo comes back in and gets into the top line again. Hyman is to valuable in that spot to take him off. Let him rotate with Spezza for 4th line C. I’m mean he is 41 coming off a fractured rib, not playing for a month, could be really tough for him to get back into the lineup. Even if the Leafs make no moves.

Expansion protection
Matthews Marner Nylander Tavares Paul Virtanen Anderson
Rielly Brodie Muzzin
Exposed Engvall Dermott Holl
Leafs trade 2nd rounder plus Hallander for Seattle to take Engvall

First time in a very long time I would change nothing to the defence. I really like each pairing right now.

downgrading a key position of 3C to get another player at a position at which we have guys who can step up and fill the role? No thanks

Nick Paul is better than Kerfoot, I’m sorry. Not a downgrade. Kerfoot for Virtanen, debatable

I’ll take Virtanen’s physical play over Kerfoot. I like the look of that 3rd line a lot

If you're saying that Virtanen possesses physical play then let me tell you as a Canucks fan, that Alex Semin was a renowned enforcer

nick paul is worse than kerfoot, I'm sorry. Virtanen is worse than kerfoot too. You're just mad that kerfoot had a bad penalty night last night (2 of his penalties were also bogus calls)

Leafs need Kerfoot at centre. And that is a crazy scenario about Lehtonen. He's going to play more, unless the Leafs go through the whole season and playoffs with no injuries to their defence.
He's remaining in the NHL this season to prove himself worth of a NHL contract next season

Also a prospect and a pick to take on Engvall? Is that a joke? Buried in the minors he costs 175k against the cap if you really don't want him in the lineup. Is 175k worth a 2nd rounder and a prospect? Come on

not once did I trade Kerfoot for Bennett. I've only made Bennett trades where I kept kerfoot. Nice try though.

And even if I did Bennett> Paul and Virtanen

They have to expose someone you noodle. I’ll take Dermott and Holl. Absolutely have to pay to take Engvall over those two

Paul is an unusual situation

He’s not a top6 centre, or a 1st line winger
He’s not a 1st pair defender
He’s not a #1 goalie
He’s not going to score 20 goals, or get 50 points
He’s not an enforcer, though he can fight well enough
He’s basically a really good checking winger, that’s great along the boards
He is such an important piece of the team though
It’s difficult to put a value to him
He may be lost to Seattle, but someone needs to be selected

I wouldn't pay a 2nd and a prospect to keep Dermott. I like him but he's 24, played years in the NHL, and can barely stay on the 3rd pairing. By next year this time that will be Sandin's spot to lose, not Dermott's. You noodle.

Why is it with Leafs fans and Leaf haters, that meh players on other teams can be such great contributors to the Leafs?
What are the Leafs 7 and 2. Not good enough? But other teams bottom enders are going to help?

He can play centre but on the 4th line, but as a winger he’s fine in the middle6, preferably the 3rd line

Hyman, just kidding, lol.

As much as I like Connor Brown, the leafs made the right decision keeping Hyman. He’s really underrated in this league, which I didn’t think was possible for a leaf, lol.

Keeping Nick Paul he could top 6 eventually. I can see him putting up 40 points a season with more offensive minutes. He's been one of our best players (top 3)
Bad trade.

The Leafs are 7-2 because the power play is a ridiculous 11-26(42.9) and have won five (1 goal games). Not a Leaf hater, this is a fantasy website. Nick Paul is a very good hockey player, IMO Virtanen’s grit would be an awesome addition. Fresh start new team

Was Nick Paul even an NHL players last season? Virtanen sucks and Kerfoot has been good. No need to alter the team.
