Ottawa never owned Girard's rights, not even for 1 minute. He went straight to Colorado.

Ottawa never had Girard. They effectively traded Turris + Byram + Bowers + Hammond + Stienburg for Duchene.

This is correct, Turris was traded with Bowers, Hammond, 1st (Byram) and 3rd (Steinberg) to Colorado for Matt Duchene.

Cherry picking, speculation, and errors.

We never *technically* had Sam Girard on our team. He was part of a 3-way trade.
You are all 100% correct, but we are definitely debating semantics here.
1. Ottawa rejected Nashville's original offer for Turris | Girard + Kamenev + 2ND
2. Ottawa wanted to use Turris+ for Duchene instead | Turris + Bowers + Hammond + 1ST + 3RD
3. Colorado didn't want Turris, so they accepted exactly what Nashville offered Ottawa for Turris.
4. A three way trade simplified the process for salary cap purposes.
So Ottawa never technically had Girard, but Dorion knowingly chose Duchene over:
- Round 1 Pick | 004 - 2019 |
Byram
- Round 1 Pick | 028 - 2017 |
Bowers
- Round 2 Pick | 042 - 2014 |
Kamenev
- Round 2 Pick | 047 - 2016 |
Girard
- Round 2 Pick | 058 - 2018 |
Hallander
- Round 2 Pick | 062 - 2018 |
Stienburg
- Round 7 Pick | 200 - 2018 |
Hammond (est. value)
Which is even wilder when compared to the putrid Mark Stone return shortly after:
- Round 1 Pick | 015 - 2017 |
Brannstrom
- Round 2 Pick | 061 - 2020 |
Sokolov
However, we should all feel extremely blessed because:

TCMonkey yeah clearly there are some errors ...
A lot of these players are on new teams or retired now.
Missing young guys were replaced with equivalent draft picks.
And I was too lazy to spend hours getting it perfect.
And then I kept DeMelo because I felt like it.
Deal with it son.
