Seattle Expansion Draft

Fellow Leaf fans. Who do you have the Leafs protecting in the expansion draft?

Here's my list as of today.

7 forwards
Matthews
Marner
Nylander
Tavares
Hyman (if he re-signs prior to the draft)
Kerfoot
Mikheyev

3 Defence
Reilly
Brodie
Muzzin

1 Goalie
Campbell

Holl (or Dermott)

Campbell

Mikheyev doesn't need to be protected (he hasn't played enough games) and Hyman and Andersen are UFA's, you can wait to resign them. This leaves Kerfoot and one of Holl or Dermott. Kerfoot probably gets taken. The leafs can replace him with a UFA or aquire someone.

Mikheyev can still be selected though can't he?

No, he can't. You must have played 2 seasons... wait, he has played 2 seasons. I don't know why he's exempt, but capfriendly lists him as exempt under the expansion draft tool, so, thats what I'm going with

Hopefully Hyman is ok re-signing in the offseason, in which case the 8 skater approach may be the better option.

Ya, I don't see why he would be opposed to waiting, but he might not have a choice regardless. If he resigns then the 7-3 scenario is going to happen.
