Actually Chabors 8x 8M is somewhat comparable.
And before you eat me alive, consider this:
Makar is faster vs Chabot is more physical
Makar has better points production vs Chabot defends better
Makar gets his points behind NHLs best offense (one of the best powerplays) vs Chabot plays is freaking Ottawa.

Am not seeing any defender getting those Karlsson numbers anytime soon. If he wants/gets them -> Avs are up **** creek as soon as mackinnons deal runs out.
Perhaps if he takes 8 years it could be upto 8.5-9.5M

Chabot took a discount but that aside, Makar is younger than Chabot and has more room to improve.

Chabot’s deal is the baseline. Personally I think Sakic doesn’t want to do a bridge then the Avs are doing MacKinnon and Byram one year and Makar the next. I think they end up in the 8x10 range, enough contracts fall of the books like Compher and Johnson that helps.

Anything under 10 for an 8 year contract would be an absolute steal. That contract would age like MacKinnon's.

McDavid makes $12.5 and you're giving Makar $12? I love the kid but he isn't worth $12. If he goes long-term, I could see $8.5-9; bridge would be more In the $7x3. If the cap goes up by the end of a bridge ad he gets serious Norris consideration or the Avs win the Cup and Makar plays a big role in that, then he could probably get eight figures.

He'd be smart to get a high bridge for 3-4 years. New TV deal may make the cap skyrocket and Makar could have more hardware on his resume to demand a much higher payday.

Not even close to reality, especially with covid cap. I think it could be a lot lower than people are predicting on here.

Not right now with the Covid cap, but down the line yes, and that’s why I think it is imperative they sign him to an 8yr deal. Big money at the beginning would sting but down the line with expansion money and a new tv deal it becomes way easier.

I don't see him being offered an 8x10; I'd say 8x9, max. If the cap stays flat for the next 2-3 years, the Avs may not really have a choice but to bridge and Makar and his agent might decide to wait things out and see what happens with the cap to try to get more later. It's going to depend on what Landy gets, what happens with Gru, who gets taken by Seattle, what other trades might happen, etc. It can be managed but it's going to be an interesting next few years in terms of keeping the core together, getting the younger guys in (which is going well, so far) and surrounding them with enough auxiliary talent to remain at the top.

I think the only one of those that matters is if he wants a bridge to maximize his earning. He is without a doubt the 2nd most important player on the team. Him and MacKinnon for lack of better description operate in vacuum contract wise not influenced by other players, because push comes to shove they cut loose any player not named MacKinnon or Makar to sign them. I agree whole heartedly about filling in the auxiliary players, but if the scouting department does their jobs guys like Kaut, Bowers, LOC, Kovalenko, Jost, even if one or two of Foudy, Mutula, Steinburg, Ranta, Beucage, or Rolston can fill out the bottom 6 letting guys like Compher, Donskoi, PEB, Nichushkin and Calvert to walk at the end of their contracts allows even more flexibility.

Here is one not so crazy thought, what happens if Makar wins the Norris this year? One thing for sure you would be begging him to sign an 8x10 deal.

Agree on letting the role players walk or trading them and that Mac and Makar are really in a league of their own with the other upper-echelon players. I do think it's plausible in a shortened season on a team that is going to score a ton of goals and win a lot of games that Makar could win the Norris. That definitely would push his value into the $10M range. At that point, they'd have to move some salary out aside from what they'll lose to Seattle (I actually think it may be a good idea to offer them someone like Compher for nothing in order to take Graves so they can protect Toews, Jost and Bura).

In the XD there has to be an some sort of understanding with EJ to waive his NMC and protect Toews because Seattle itself probably has zero interest in EJ, and I do think Seattle is going to leverage play lists with other teams for picks but even in that scenario who is going to give up something significant say a 2nd to get Seattle to take EJ and his contract? It’s an interesting idea to offer Compher to take Graves because that would clear an additional $6.5M in cap space combined with PEB and Calvert’s coming off, that gives them a ton of flexibility.

Why would Makar get less than Rantanen with more term? Makar > Rantanen.

You'd be begging him to sign 10Mx8 even if he doesn't win the Norris. If Makar is smart he takes a bridge deal cause he's still improving.
