Cleaning Up the Wings (Pre Expansion Draft)

Created by: camshaft1389
Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2016
Published: Dec. 7, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Islanders need offense so Oilers trade Pouliot (ok offensively) for terrible Kulimen

To ensure their Minnesota trade doesnt end up in the loss of Dumba a or a forward, Oilers trade Davidson and 3rd Rounder to Vegas
Minny needs offense yup front and they need to trade a D before the draft, This ensures they are protecting a decent player and they lose a higher cost contract

If that deal is offered to MN, GMCF has Pommer and Dumba on a plane to Edm before he hangs up the phone.

Unless Eberle all of a sudden decides/learns to play defense I think GMCF passes. The ghost of Vanek is still lingering. I don't know if Ebs fits at all with the way BB wants his team to play.

Pommer's contract sucks, but he's a solid 2-way 3rd line RW. Eb's paired with Granny/Koivu makes for a really soft line without much of a forecheck. Nino (Parise)/Staal/Ebs sounds good on paper, but the Staal line wins with it's aggressive forecheck. Parise(Nino)/Haula/Ebs sounds like a killer 3rd line.

I'd probably (75%) make the trade if it was up to me (Pommer's contract + NMC puts it over the top).

I don't think Dumba is a dman the Oilers should be looking for from the Wild. They need Brodin/Spurgeon (more polished) lots more than Dumba (raw talent).

I disagree. Dumba still has a bomb of a shot. and oilers need that shot presence on their team

Dumba has a bomb, true. But can't hit anything with it, and hasn't figured out how to get it to the net without it being blocked. Wild have even taken him off the PP for the time being. As a team the Oilers are still a mess defensively, Dumba would add to that mess. Another d-man that plays defense would help stabilize that.

If the Wild had anyone that could score on a breakaway (besides Stewart of all players), or properly execute an oddman rush; Broin and Spurgeon would probably have double the assists they have now.
