Elvis and a 2nd for a rental?

Why would Columbus want a rental?

This doesn't make any sense. The deal would come with an extension included or they wouldn't consider it. And paying Elvis and a first would be fair value in that case except they can just have him for free in the offseason and not have to protect him from Seattle.

Elvis only has this season +1 on his contract and not alot of history in the nhl where as nuge has years of proven abilities.
Also nuge is easily a 2nd line center on most teams but easily a 1st for the jackets and they need to show Laine they're going to build around him so he extends with them.
But I agree jackets would want an extension in place before the trade happens I'm sure.

Why?

Oilers get a true nhl starter, a 3rd line center, and a 1st or 2nd pick for a guy they can't afford after this season. Better to get good pieces instead of nothing for him.
