From Colorado’s perspective you have a deal.

This is a bad trade for NYI. Cizikas is underrated, and Sorokin has potential to be a top 10 goaltender.

Perhaps Isles can get more in a trade involving Cizikas and Sorokin, but Cizikas is UFA (Isles cant afford to resign) and will likely walk. He is also not the same player he used to be. I think he is on the downswing. I also believe Sorokin will not adjust to north american game like Shesterkin or Samsonov. I know its only been two games, but he struggles to see through traffic and therefore gives up too many rebounds.

Even if you feel that way about those players doesn't mean that their value tanks -- Sorokin has a lot of value right now (and it's only 2 games, as you said). Cizikas could have a lot of value to a contender if retained. If you're really set on trading those guys, I think you can do better.

Disagree with the other Avs fans. Jost has been the best botton six player on the team this year and is under team control for a good while. I like Cizikas a lot, but he's a UFA.

Sorokin interests me for sure. If both Johnson and Toews come back healthy then Graves is on the table. They can't trade him now though with those guys in doubt.

Interesting proposal though!

How could Colorado do anything but accept this? It's like the Varlamov trade but instaed of giving up the 11th overall pick we'd only be giving up a 4th liner and a 5/6 Dman for a future starting goalie, AND we'd be getting one of the leagues best defensive C's to fill the 3C spot and create an elite shutdown line with Nichuskin+1. No brainer for Colorado. I'd even throw in an extra pick or prospect to get 'er done.

Fwiw I think Jost would be excellent in Trotz's NYI team. His defensive instincts are top notch.

I like it from COL perspective in a vacuum. But with injuries to Toews and Johnson COL isn’t trading Graves. The Jost Cizikas trade off is a lot closer than people think. @Anus_McLeod correctly pointed out Jost has been awesome in the bottom 6 defensively and on the pk and makes peanuts. I think on the surface it looks super appealing to BOTH teams, but creates holes for each team.

Great idea and very creative!!!! Great post!

Shestyerkin gave up 7 goals in his first game in NA in the traverse city tournament.

Sorokin also looks just as good as shestyerkin in Byron bader model.

Jost is more valuable than Cizikas (imo) due to age and team control. And they can't trade Graves while Toews and EJ are out. It's not there for me.

As mentioned, I'd be willing to work something out for Sorokin when the timing is better or if they'd take futures but it doesn't work at the moment. Goalie isn't a huge need though (other than maybe a cheap backup), so I'm not gonna hurt a team with a legit shot this year for a goalie that will be good in a couple years.

I expected him to start off slow. No preseason, hasn’t played a game in 10 months. Even shestyerkin and samsonov have gotten off to terrible starts this year, arguably worse than sorokin.

Jost is a solid defensive minded winger and graves is nothing special (more of a 3rd pairing D IMO) . If the isles were to trade sorokin (highly unlikely) they should get a young top 6 forward in return

I agree with you. They can get more in a trade with Sorokin. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for the reasons you mentioned above. Better to save judgement after more time with Mitch and Piero. Also, the Isles haven't played like they usually do. In fact, they have been pretty bad in front of him.

I think you are spot on with Graves. Jost I still believe given a decent finishing wing can be a 35-40 pt player.

Would NYI entertain offers involving pure futures for Sorokin? Talking 1st+

No it doesn’t make sense. Lou probably considers him untouchable because he has the potential to be a top 5 G in the league. Me personally I would trade him for a young cost controlled Top 6 F

I'm totally with you on the Jost's value being similar to Cizikas, and I also agree that it's risky to trade a Dman now given injuries. It's not a wrong approach to be patient.

That said, thinking long term this could be a move that shores up our goaltending for years to come. In the short term Cizikas would replace Jost, even being an upgrade, and beyond this season we have O'Connor, Bowers, and Kaut for 4th line roles to replace Jost. The biggest issue is losing a Dman obviously, but we could probably afford to ride out a few days/weeks until Toews is back. A D group of Byram-Makar-Girard-Toews-Johnson is more than fine, and Graves can be replaced in a separate trade at the deadline.
