Wont happen but I want to hear thoughts

Created by: TheHebrewHammer
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2021
Published: Feb. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Again, realistically the Islanders and Rangers will never be trade partners. The Islanders would save 700k this year(2021) and next year (2022) and 4.425 mill in 2023. I added the third as compensation for that last year (Don't really think it will be enough but the Rangers are in a tough position). And now the Islanders can have 2 players who are blacklisted from the NHL.

Terminating his contract would not be so easy. It would require the Rangers to prove a breach in his contract/a lengthy legal case. In terms of the buyout, I'm not sure, but something tells me I wouldn't help that much/be so easy because no NHL analysts have mentioned that option. (I could be totally wrong) If they can and it would save them some good money, that would be their best option or just bury him.

They won't get near market value for him at this point, but I don't think they'll have to take on one of the worst contracts in the league to rid themselves of him. Worst case, they send him to the minors and when he inevitably doesn't report, they cut ties. Best case, they trade him for a late pick and retain some money or something

Theres a handy buyout calculator on this site. His buyout would be exceptionally cheap.

The termination of contract thing is a breeze if bettman decides its the right thing.

Buying him out is 1/3 of the contract because of his age. And I have heard a ton of people mention that option as it's the most likely. In fact that is the reason teams would take a flyer on him because if he doesn't work out for the next 45 games you can buy him out for pennies on the dollar

Ya, but that would be the reason any team would consider it.. very little damage financially, PR damage for a good team would be bad but minimal for a garbage feeding team like DET/OTT/CHI/etc. (We would be in this group too so no butthurt comments please). Trade or not NYR is better off.
