I'd 100% do Mantha for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with an extension say 7 x $7,000,000 No thanks on Neal he's a worthless cap dump even with $1,500,000 retention i'd still want at least a 2nd round pick coming back as he still has 2 more years after this one and he doesn't fit into Detroit's plans as of this coming season Detroit will be much younger as much of our aging players come off the books.

As an Oilers fan I don't absolutely hate this, Mantha should be a perennial 30 something goal scorer beside McD on a currently reasonable contract in the crucial McD and Drai years. But, I can only see Nuge signing with a team other than the Oil who are contenders. He has spent a decade with so little success in Edmonton, and Detroit looks years and years from contending. So I just don't see anything like this possible, since Detroit wouldn't likely take the chance on trading for him without an extension.

Other issue is if Mantha only plays RW (or does he play both?). Oil are already deeper on RW than LW, losing Nuge would put it really off kilter.

Wings pass, we can sign nuge in the offseason if we really want him. If we trade mantha it's going to cost a ton of assets and if you want us to take Neal add a first ontop of it

I don’t like this from an oilers perspective. What happens if mcdavid or Leon get banged up turris becomes second line centre? Isn’t mantha competing against turris for league wide words plus minus? Mantha is rw I personally haven’t seen that as a position of need jp and yam have been fine haven’t seen a big enough reason to move away from to destroy lw depth and flexibility at centre. Then we move on to the cap dump Neal who by my eye has brought the spark back in the oilers pp which was starting to get outscored short handed before his return to the line up. Like him or not he has an important role on the team mantha is better player no doubt but it’s a guessing game if that role can be replaced. I’m firmly against this idea
