Danault - Thoughts - CBJ fans and MTL fans

Created by: GMs
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2021
Published: Feb. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In the MTL description, ignore the point - What would you be ready to add lol

I did it myself with the pick upgrade/downgrade since CBJ miss a 2021 2nd rd pick
Trades
MTL
  1. Jenner, Boone
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
- MTL won’t resign Jenner after is current deal so CBJ could sign him when he hits UFA

- What would you be ready to add

- Jenner is a perfect candidate to replace Danault for this year and give another year to Poehling or Evans to be ready to take 3C responsibility
CBJ
  1. Danault, Phillip
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Sign an extension prior to the trade or right after whatever, he is signing long term 5-6-7 years around 5.5M

- CBJ gets a top6 C so Torterella could use Texier or Danault 1C/2C, when Foudy is ready for top6 minutes, move Texier to LW. Domi isn’t resigning with CBJ so that would be a good fit IMO

- 2022 1st round pick is lottery protected

What is the incentive for Montreal here? They're playing great. At this point this looks like moving up half a round and downgrading a player

Cbj would probably try to get you to take the 2021 first before 2022, but yah I'd do it

Hell no from Montreal. If Danault is a sign and trade then Columbus adds big time like minimum an 2nd and an A+ prospect. Otherwise we are trading a top 6 elite 2 way center for a rental and a 1st. Thanks but go pound salt!

Yeah that trade seems like a scam especially with Jenner potentially resigning with CLB (how would MB look). Marchenko and a first for Danault and a second would be a good base depending on how good Marchenko actually is (there are scouts watching him better than anyone here)

Columbus really isn’t interested in this tbh. They love Jenner and seem set to go with Texier, Roslovic, Domi, Jenner, Folingo, Koivu and Nash as the centers. Yes Danault is better, but he isn’t worth is moving a 1st+ for and looking at the other posts they want our best prospect for a rental, sorry but no.

He is a rental read the discription.

MTL won’t resign Jenner after is current deal so CBJ could sign him when he hits UFA

We may get him for 1.5 years but because it's known he won't resign that makes him a rental just a longer term rental.

Ok drop down the 2nd round pick
We still get a quality player vs Danault

IMO the deal under the circumstances outlined above should be

Danault (resigned) for Jenner (long term rental) + 1st unprotected + A+ prospect. That's if your set on having Jenner as part of the deal.

Then we keep him for our cup run. We don't need to move Danault. Losing him for nothing is acceptable if we make a deep run

Right about now I bet Danault wishes he had taken that 6 years x 5 Mil deal. He bet on himself and is so far losing.

Yeah, the premise of this trade is flawed. The Jackets definitely aren’t giving up Jenner who still has a year left on his deal for a guy who is an UFA to be and move down the draft board.
