that contract was to pricey. Rangers can retain half making him only 2.4 mill rather than 4.8 mill should a team want him

because he cleared waivers and would only cost 2.4 mill if he starts problems on his new team they can throw him on the taxi and forget about him.

I would only take DeAngelo if the team was literally giving assets or taking back bad contracts. And even then, I wouldn't let him near my team and would just buy him out in the summer (it's a cheap buyout).

1. He's talented but his horrible defense makes him a liability on the ice. Have to shelter him.

2. He has clear anger management and impulse control issues going back to his junior career where he was suspended three times

3. Three different NHL teams have gotten tired of him.

4. He's a huge PR issue both for his behavior online and for the fact that he automatically alienates a giant chunk of your fanbase.

Even at 50% retained, he has negative value. He's an awful defender and he's a PR nightmare, to put it mildly
