Alright. Lot to unpack here.

Personally i think if there was one team in the NHL Crosby would want to go to, it would be Montreal. The story of him returning to end the near 30 year drought would be something.

That said, this is a massive deal for Pittsburgh. There would be a backlash from the fan base, and its a big enough deal that ownership would for sure have to sign off. That gets rid of the retention.

Then try selling it to the owner that you’re just getting back a late first and some mediocre picks, a 5’7’ college kid (who does look good), a blah prospect, and a cap dump. No no.

Without retention it’s Suzuki, a prospect of Pittsburgh’s choosing, and a couple picks

Wish there was a multi like button! Pittsburgh is NOT trading Crosby and even if they did Montreal eod NOT gut their team or future to get him. The deal would have to work both ways otherwise there would BOT be a deal.

No it's not don't even kid yourself! IF Crosby was available Montreal has the upper hand in the deal cause he would ONLY waive for Montreal. Therefore Montreal pretty much sets their price and Pittsburgh either takes the deal or says no thanks hence the reason I said the deal has to work for both sides. Neither side can feel like they are losing the deal otherwise there is no deal to be made. Montreal has to send Cap out so Danault + another roster player have to be included Lets say Armia. That's 5.6 Mil out which means worth we send another roster player or get retention. For arguments sake let's include Edmundson. Now we are at 9.1 Mil out and 8.5 in so we need to take a 700k player from Pens as well. Then we load on picks and prospects like maybe Struble + 2021 1st + 2 2nds. Pittsburgh gets a total package of Danault + Armia + Edmundson + Struble + 1st + 2nd + 2nd for Crosby and a 700k contract.

It’s speculation to another level to assume that Crosby would only waive for Montreal. He’s built all sorts of relationships across the league over the years I’m sure. Maybe he really wants to win and can pick a better spot.

If it’s a take it or leave it offer that looks like what you presented, Pittsburgh leaves it and all conversations are broken off for good. Thats an absolute trash offer.
Edit: i thought you were the original poster. My bad. Your offer is, idk, better? At least theres a legit good NHL piece there.

The rumour was that Crosby would only waive for Montreal. Sort of a Tavares to Toronto thing or OEL to Vancouver thing hence why I said Montreal gets to set the price sort of

In fairness, OEL said boston or Vancouver. For an owner to sign off on trading Crosby, purely from a financial perspective, they’ve got to get a ridiculous haul.

The flip side is for an owner to sign off on acquiring him the GM can't gut his team and future either.

Montreal is not going to cut their team and future for what maybe 3-5 years of Crosby still half decent. Why should they?
