This team is bad

Created by: Tkachuckyyy
Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2021
Published: Feb. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
4 wins in 10 games. This team is heavily overshadowed by good goaltending. Everyone saying not to panic, we've lost 1 goal games...you can clearly tell that is in fact due to markstroms play. This team needs a shake up, and not just a little bennett trade out of town....

Ah yes, your RW sucks... yet when I tried to move Bennet for Vatrano the other day on here - a solid Mangiapane like RW.... I got a bunch of backlash because "This trade doesn't help the flames in any way"....

Lucic, Leivo and Simon aren’t the problem. Monahan is. Need lindholm back on the wing too.

Flames fans are enamoured with Bennet.the shine is starting to wear off. If he is traded it will be a an underwhelming return.

I’ve always liked the guy but he just isn’t much more than a bottom 6 grinder.

I think he has considerable bounce back potential and can thrive in the right situation... potentially averaging a 0.5 point pace... but you don't trade guys at this age with a loose expectation of what is to come. Teams buy hoping they can reach a player's potential. Nobody wants current form bennett. They want to bring out the skill he showed at first, before he was drafted and that was seen breifly in the playoffs.

That said, I think Vatrano is the upper bound of a lateral swap that meets the team's needs as well as the recipient's... the other fit I see is Minnesota, who can use Bennett as a 2nd line center in a Eriksson Ek type role - not sure what the MIN return would be, though.

Bounce back? You have to be there first. Yakupov has more points in less nhl games.

Bennet for virtanen makes a ton of sense.

Bennett's highest point rate was in his first season, then gradually declined every year after that. This is an unusual slope for higher end (at the time) prospects. Any team buying on him will strive to milk whatever "top draft pick" potential he has left.... perhaps bringing him back to the form of the 36 point player he once was.

It's no question that Calgary is vastly misusing him. There are teams who have turned players with much less potential around and got the most out of them (Look at what florida has already done with Verhaegue) and got the maximum use out of them. I think Bennett has more to give elsewhere.

Bennett as is has 0 value. His Qualifying offer is 2.5 million per. Which translates to him being a FA next year as I don't see anyone giving him 2.5 million per.
So basically he's a bottom 6 rental. Who the hell spends on bottom 6 rentals. No one.

I would disagree on the 0 value part. By no means do I think they'd get back a haul, but the NHL is run by a bunch of old white guys, who will look at the fact that he has scored at a .63 ppg rate in the playoffs, and say "I need that!", small sample size notwithstanding.

This team has 2 games against the bottom half of the North division that they handled easily. They then went on a ten day break which helps no one. Let’s reassess when everyone has a similar schedule and we’ve seen Vancouver, Edmonton Ottawa’s of the division. If you win two thirds of those games against those teams you’re at 20 wins, 30-35 likely gets you in a 4th spot in the division.

Edmonton doesn’t want luc back haha. He’s got the worst contract in the nhl and you can’t even buy it out. At least other players cover a portion of what they are paid.

tears of joy As an old white guy, I feel pretty confident that me calling out old white guys is probably A-Ok! I mean, are the vast majority of NHL Gm's not old & white? Are they also not male? Should I have addressed the group as "Experienced humans who value the good old fashion eye test as opposed to actual data"?

I'm actually pretty surprised that someone is standing up for the Burke's, Rutherford's, Poile's, Lamoriello's, Benning's, etc. of the league. I'm sure they're all pretty thankful that such a great crusader is out there standing up for their greatness! Cheers man! As an old white guy (Whoopsie...Human who has been on the planet for a bit), I sincerely thank you for standing up for me.

A you aren't an old white guy, so just stop lying. As no old white guy coming on here saying "old white guys"
          B. when you clearly are a dishonest person, it's pretty clear you a brainwashed fool. Let me clue your ignorant ass in. If you have to make a mention of someones Race, Age, Sex regarding things that have nothing to do with any of those things. You should probably just keep your mouth shut.

          B. when you clearly are a dishonest person, it's pretty clear you a brainwashed fool. Let me clue your ignorant ass in. If you have to make a mention of someones Race, Age, Sex regarding things that have nothing to do with any of those things. You should probably just keep your mouth shut.

Like I said, your support means the world to those of us who aren't young anymore. Cheers! Hopefully your Pens can go out and get a "seasoned person" to fill their GM position. Ron Hextall would certainly bring some youthful (Can I say youthful?) enthusiasm to the position, as well as some veteran (Ah Christ, if I say "veteran" it probably somehow makes it seem like I'm saying "Old"!) leadership to the position, as he has experience (I'M NOT REFERRING TO HIS AGE!), and could potentially bring in some more Michael Matheson-type players, who play the game the right way!

          Have a wonderful weekend!

          At least we aren't Ottawa

Oh you mean that time directly below us in our division lol at this point, id rather get a top 3 pick than a 12-15 and just miss the playoffs lol

Ah yes, your RW sucks... yet when I tried to move Bennet for Vatrano the other day on here - a solid Mangiapane like RW.... I got a bunch of backlash because "This trade doesn't help the flames in any way"....

There are more problems than the right wing. We also pay over 5 mil to put a pylon on the ice

Lucic, Leivo and Simon aren’t the problem. Monahan is. Need lindholm back on the wing too.

C'mon man, yes they are. What has simon done in 10 games. Literally NOTHING! he was scratched already. He's a league minimum salary player for a reason....lucic is a massive liability. Not only literally on the ice but the fact that he makes more money than lindholm and almost as much as Monahan is a massive problem in bringing in somone who is actually worth the money...leivo has gotten a bit better, but again he's an average bottom 6 depth player, if that....I agree Monahan isn't an elite center but he is top 20 in my mind and can at least produce consistently

By 10 day break, do you actually mean 5? And that's exactly my point, the fact we will be lucky to get into the last playoff spot in arguably the easiest division in the league and then get lit up by the very teams they are having difficulty beating . The season is 20% over already... im just calling it as i see it, i like your optimism but i don't like there chances with the way this team is constructed

I do mean 5, either way. Take just Ottawa out of the Oilers and Canucks schedules, it's 4 and 6 points respectively. The Canucks would still have more games played than the Flames and be behind the Flames at 8 points the Oilers would have the same GP with 8 points behind the Flames as well. That alone has Calgary in a playoff spot. Be the best team out of Edmonton, Ottawa and Vancouver and go from there. Get into the dance and anything is possible especially with Markstrom in net.
