Bennings excuse for not signing Toffoli was the lamest thing I have heard in ages.

"I RaN OuT oF TiMe"

Lol

No dude say why you really lost him. You had a ****ing hardon for another bad contract in OEL

You could have easily signed him before the offseason and moved Virtanen but no and now Virtanen has run out of favor with management and Toffoli is now a Canuck Killer

No. Don't do this. This screws the team in the long run.

Click on the "long-term outlook" button.... There's no way to sign pettersson or hughes...

The canucks fanbase's short term view on everything would screw the long term picture of being a playoff team. You take the hit for one year to be better long term.

I quote what I wrote in a different post:

Quoting: Wqrrior
I don't put the blame on Benning.

I was really content with the roster he iced this season. Didn't overpay markstrom or tanev, overpay anyone in FA - waited Vegas to get a solid defender...

Canucks fans are the most reactionary fans by a mile. This fanbase never thinks about tomorrow and is always concerned about what is at hand immediately. All these canucks fans dream of bring back toffoli and markstrom neglecting to realize the harm it has on some critical contracts next year.

Nobody predicted Pettersson disappearing this season. Nobody predicted the defense being *this* bad. These are locker room and chemistry issues. The effect of the guys leaving that did - its not so much the skill loss that hurts; its the effect they had on the other players in the room.

Schmidt doesn't work here at all (This is a Green issue - not a Benning issue). Hughes has regressed defensively. Myers is on the ice too much.... Benn has been the best defensive guy so far by a considerable margin - (He's been solid, but that says something about the remaining people).

The team itself needs to step up. No use pointing at Benning. He's paying for his past mistakes now, but did well not to dig his hole worse by having any more stupid contracts signed. Virtanen in hindsight should have been released - but just because Toffoli feeds on this team for goals doesn't mean he is some type of elite talent that Benning failed to sign.

Tldr;

This fanbase needs to quit being so terribly reactionary. It's a step back from last year, but at what benefit for next year? Lots! I'd rather suck this year to be competent for 4 more years than to screw up everything to be good this year at the expense of the future.

Markstrom wants too long of a deal and the NMC is reasonably a no go. Signing him would hurt on the back end of the contract... then all the canucks fans would be complaining.

Tanev is brittle and was overpaid by the flames. If schmidt wakes up, then he's the better player.

Hamonic is better than Stecher. Stecher is not that good. For whatever reason the canucks fanbase made it seem like he was good.

Toffoli would have been nice to have - but he didn't bring much last year. His early success is more taking advantage of our weakness rather than his own skill. Taking him over Jake would have been nice, but his contract barely fits long term.

Don’t think Markstrom would have been back with the Canucks, due to expansion draft issues.

I think the Canucks season is more a result of team play than anything. Bennings bad contracts from the past really had an impact on his offseason. I don't think they could have kept Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli. I think you can keep 1 or two. Markstrom was the best bit the still have high hopes for Demko. Tanev was undervalued beside Hughes but replaced with Schidt. Toffoli was a great addition who they could have kept but OEL rumour distracted them.
Who goes first, Benning or Green?
