The Ducks aren't going to have interest in two 30+ year old forwards on expiring contracts & a mid-tier prospect. I have to think that a trade involving Rakell AND Henrique starts with a 1st and a guy like Matthew Boldy, and that's just to be in the same ballpark.

That's fair, Bonino and Johansson aren't value pieces, just to even things out on cap space. Hunt is a decent LD prospect, which the Ducks prospect pool seems to lack on, but I'm not really sure what Henrique is worth, so I'm not surprised I low-balled the offer there.

I don’t think it’s a low ball at all. Hunt probably is too low on the chain to be of interest but I think the idea of moving Henriques contract would be helpful next year for them and why this isn’t that great for the Wild. It locks us in to more aging players, even if Rakell is a great guy to add.

And I could be way off base. I do my best to keep up with prospects around the NHL, but let's be real...I have a slight bias towards Dallas. Lol. I'm just seeing the deal as Minnesota getting two 50-point forwards from a team that's still 2-3 years away from competing.

It's not stellar long term, but gives the Wild a decent opportunity for a few years. If we do this one and then trade Dumba before the expansion so we can go 7F - 3D - 1G, we could potentially bump cap space up to $25mil, then we'd probably lose Soucy or Talbot to Seattle, opening up around another $3mil, so signing Kaprizov, Fiala, Ek isn't a problem. Just once we get to Kahk, Greenway, and Rakell needing new contracts the following year it gets a bit tricky. Would need to move Henrique or finally buyout Zucc and might need a little more beyond that. And also don't want to overcommit, because then there's Rossi and Addison to keep in mind the year after that.

Let's be honest here, neither Ducks player is exactly a spring chicken either here by this point.

Henrique is the second oldest player that's involved in this trade after Bonino. Rakell the youngest, but not by too much.

Bonino: 32
Henrique: 30
Johansson: 29
Rakell: 27

Also, neither Ducks player has been a 50 point player for at least a couple of seasons. 40 point players, sure. Henrique hasn't hit 50 since he was with the Devil's, and Rakell has been on a downturn for the last couple of years in terms of overall play.

That doesn't get you a top 50 ranked prospect, I'm sorry. I'd however happily throw in Beckman ontop of Hunt to even things out. But I'd remove the 4th rounder from the deal, given the two prospects involved.

Interesting idea, not sure it makes the Wild good enough though, Ducks have been down for a while so I'm not sure we can actually gauge these two properly. To me the worst thing would be to continue being the Minnesota Mild. I'm really hoping Wild can get the bottom to drop out just in time to get Shane Wright. Since Wild lack lottery luck it's probably for not, but that's the dream.

I think we've hammered home that Henrique is too old, but I really don't mind the idea of Rakell in this scenario. Looking longer term, like you have, I don't think either Rakell or Henrique moves the needle.

What would the price of dumba before draft day be? For example if NYR were to offer their 1st assuming its top 5, what else would need to be added?

I'm not sure what other Wild fans sentiment is, but I think I'd be plenty happy with a top-5 pick. We have Addison and hopefully Menell (who's doing well in the KHL right now) who could step in on the right side if we moved Dumba.

Nothing, that would be an overpayment. Right now, anyway.

If Dumba was fully healthy and had gotten back to where he was a couple of years ago before the pectoral injury he'd of been worth a top ten pick in the 6-12 range on his own.

He had really started to look like he was getting back into that form this year and was finally back to 100%. But, given his recent injury and that he might be out for the rest of the year? I'm not really sure what his value is now, to be honest.

Maybe a top prospect and a 2nd? It's hard to gauge, given how uncertain everything is.

I think Henrique is within MN's price range (although I'd rather get Danault as a UFA).

Rakell isn't a player MN should go after, he's a wing, not a center. He'll cost too much in a bidding war, and he isn't the missing piece for MN. Plus they could have drafted him instead of Phillips way back when...

Rakell is still 27 years old. He's got a few years left of solid hockey before he hits a decline. I'll give you Henrique on the age thing, but both he and Rakell still have term on their contract after this season. And in regards to neither being a 50 point player, both projected out to 50+ points over an 82-game season just last year, and that was on a team with the 6th worst offense in the NHL. Insinuating that both are 50+ point players in Minnesota is an extremely realistic expectation.

A combined 100+ points wrapped up in two non-rental top-6 forwards is worth a top-50 prospect and a late 1st Round Pick (lottery protect the pick).

I think these are good points and agree that Rakell has some good seasons left in him, but I'd push back on your analysis of Henrique. He's never been a 50 pt guy and as he ages, he'll be a 3C at tops making 6 mil. He'll be efective, but not 6 mil effective and that lowers the value given how important those dollars will be for ANA in 2/3 years. So I disagree about the value here, I think the 1st is reasonable but a higher quality prospect is not.

That’s fair. I’m just looking at what he did last season in Anaheim on a bad offensive team & then trying to compare to what he should be able to do in a top-6 role (like OP has him here) between any combo of Parise, Greenway, Kaprizov, and Fiala. Put him between those guys, and l really don’t see any reason he’s not a consistent 50+ point player.

Again, that’s just my assessment of the proposal though. You’re more than entitled to have a different perspective. I just appreciate the conversation.
